AVIC-700BT Problems

Hello all, I just got a AVIC-700BT for x-mas and went in perfect, other than what is the smaller plug on the back of the stock HU for? Its not hooked up but everything seems to be working. Anyways, to my major problem, the past two morning have been 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit and the AVIC won't turn on, the lights behind the ***** turn on but nothing from the screen and then it just shuts off. After driving for 10 min with the heat on, if I shut off the truck and turn it back on, the radio kicks right up? I posted this problem on AVIC411 and have just been getting check the wiring responses so far, I was wondering if anyone else with a F-150 had a similar problem or if I just have a faulty unit, or if it really is the wiring?

Thanks for any help!

Going to do that tonight, what would you recommend to use to splice the wires together, besides solder? Right now I have butt-splices, which have always seemed to work in everything else. Also, do you know what the other wire harness that goes into the stock radio is for? My guess was stuff I didn't have, like a sub or something?

heyBuck, we must travel in the same circles.

As I said on 411 mine's working fine in the cold (-35C). Ironically mine is just hooked up with crimp butt connectors. I will probably pull the deck and solder and shrink wrap eventually but didn't want too permanent of an install untill I decided if I was keeping it.

The aftermarket harness only plugs into one plug from the oem harness, Not sure what the other harness is for but I'd love to have a pinout of it. I suspect it has a speed sensor wire (not used by the 700) though because my factory deck had volume increase based on speed. I wonder if it has a reverse wire? I didn't hook up my reverse wire and it seems to work fine without it but I may need it if I get a reverse cam.

That would be sweet if it did have a reverse detector, I guess you could just buzz out the connector in park, and then throw it in reverse and see if any come to life, I just may do that and let you know what I find since I did just order a backup camera and not having to tap into the reverse lights would be awesome. I forgot about the speed sensor, I'm going to pull mine out today and re check all the wires and solder if needed, maybe I will just solder the power and ground wires for now and see where that gets me.
