Stereo Set Up

Ok I am gonna go with a Pioneer Avic f90bt with a polk audio momo component speaker set up (6.5 with tweeters) and 2 undecided 10" subs (what should i get?). What kind of amp(s) do I need to run this with? I have not dealt with any amps or subs yet. Basic wiring off the deck I understand to 4 speakers. Do I need to run the tweeters off of another amp??? what kind of set up do I need?

First advice I can give you is, go out listen to as many brands as you can at your local stereo shops. Preferably not the "big box" stores. You'll get alot more info from actual stereo shops. Second, everybody's gonna have "their" brand. Find out what you like. Personally, I like JL Audio & Alpine. lol

I am so effing sick of people ragging on big box stores. Yeah, there are some clowns that just get thrown into the department and dont know chit. But 90% of us actually know what we are talking about. Hell, the most knowledgeable and helpful person in the car audio forums here on this site works for a big box store. You'll get just as much bullchit from a salesmen at a custom audio shop as you will at a big box store.

If you go with the component, both the speaker and the tweeter will come together at the crossover, which then runs to your head unit or 4 channel if you decide to go with one. If your not wanting to do everything at once or not sure of what set up you want, Id start with a Deck and 4 and then add pieces from there. The pioneer h/u is a great choice, thats what I've always run in my truck. I've only installed polk speakers once or twice, so I cant really speak to the quality of the speaker, but I've usually only heard good things.

Wow, did I say something to **** you off. I was just telling him to listen to what brands he can to get an idea of what he likes. Everybody has "thier" brand. And in some cases, not every brand is in thier area. I can name quite a few brands that are not in my area.

As far as that person that works for a big box store, good for him. Not trying to be a smartass, I'm just saying that there is someone knowledgable. Around here there is nothing but kids either just out of high school or still in high school working in the big box stores.

When I mentioned getting info, thats just it, info. Most of the time if you go in custom stereo shops and ask them questions (not prices) you'll get awnsers.

My intent was not to **** anybody off.

Thanks for the comment about the big box. Thats me.

Be careful what you say if you havent been around long. The last thing I would recommend is **** people off the first few posts. It just doesnt help you out much. Now I do understand the slam at the big boxes. I know of a few stores that people dont know much. But the same time there are more B&M stores the exact same way. Let alone people on CA.com etc.

I have worked at CCity's for the past few years. I just the other day finally found a Polk db651 that was truely defective. I sell and install more Polk in a week than I have sold the other brands we carry in my years (no lie). I put it in one of my main customers Chevy SSR. Next day the VC was non-existant and I know it wasnt the customers fault. It sounded slightly off leaving and came back with a shorted coil in places and uncontinuital VC in other parts.

JL's quality isnt what it used to be. The only thing I would mess with again is the W6v2's or the TW5's..

Alpine is okay. Love the HU's and the R-line. The X-Ref's are ehh.. The X-Pros are nice. S-spks are great unamped. Type E subs are nice for a decent bit of output and SQ for cheap.

Again, I wasn't trying to **** anyone off! I was just goin by my experiences. Obviously thats not the case elsewhere.

I do think its kinda funny that you don't think very highly of JL products, but you have quite a bit of it. What don't you like about it? I don't like how thier prices seem to be goin up. Thats why I haven't been using 'em.

AGAIN, I was not trying to **** anyone off.

Oh ya, I know he was just asking for advice on how to set it up. All I was saying is to go out and listen to some different subs to get an idea of what he'd like. I should have been more clear.

The prices arent worth the equipment. That and when I bought most of their stuff it was 5 years ago. Quality has declined and it has become a different company. Since then I have learned boatloads and have spoken with enough people (top .01% of the industry). Learned some of what they know and I reached my decision that way.

You didnt **** me off. I grasped that after you further explained.

Sundevil - Thanks for the compliment.

if it were me i would recommend some kicker cvr 10's or cvt's(havent heard em but have heard good things bout em) alpine type s are also shallow mounts i believe, i had a set of clarion shallow mounts and i was impressed with them, but i ran too much bass boost and blew one of them and sold the other, it all depends on what your lookin for, watch videos on youtube and then go to shops as well, i would recommend ordering from sonicelectronix or woofersetc though if you want to save some money
