Well, I finally got around to installing my Eclipse CD7100 headunit. It was previously installed in my old daily driver so it wasn't quite as exciting as the first time I powered it up, but it was nice to plug the iPhone in and listen to some tunes.

I installed the deck in the stock location, and routed my USB, iPod, and auxillary input cables to the glove box. The iPod control box and Sirius Sattelite radio box are installed cleanly in the dash as well (There is a ton of room behind the dash on these trucks!). The Sirius antanae is mounted front and center on the roof of the truck, and the wire routes behind the windshield trim, into the engine compartment and through the firewall on the driver's side inside of a factory grommet. From there, it is strung along the firewall until it reaches the control box behind the dash.

All inputs work properly, the CD player functions and Sirius comes in the same as always. Now all I need is enough money to finish the system...

It's nice to be able to play basically anything in there. When the system was installed in my Acura, friends would bring their Zune, or iPods, or any other player and know that they coud hookup to the stereo. It comes in handy.

I love the ipod interface on my head unit. So much better than those FM modulators.

 

I agree, plus I can plug the iPod into the cable in the glovebox, close it and control every feature on the thing through the headunit while charging the thing. I know there are a lot of other units that do that, but so does mine damnit!

I need to load the maps to Lafayette, and then to Lake Pillsbury on my flash drive so I am able to find my way should I get seperated from the group. If I want to drop some more coin, I could get the GPS upgrade for the unit, but I think scrolling through the maps is more cost-effective.

 

I like that Monster cable mini-RCA. That cord is real nice. Had one in my Old F150.

I have the same things just minus the USB. For that I use a combination of Aux-in and my laptop...

Thank-you. The Monster cable is a nice quality cable for the money, and the nylon cable braiding makes it look rugged.

There are a few things on my list for the truck that must happen before the stereo system goes any further, but I will be sure to keep everybody in here up to date on audio when it does happen!

First up though is re-gearing the diffs, and adding an LSD to the rear.

 

I figured I would bring this back from the dead with an update:

Due to financial troubles, I never got around to finishing the stereo, re-gearing the axles or really anything other than maintenance and upkeep on the truck. Eventually these financial troubles led to the sale of the truck, at which time I removed the headunit and its accessories. As luck would have it, I received a great promotion at work and am doing great financially, even luckier is that my truck was again for sale and I got the chance to buy it back (for way cheaper than I sold it). I was stoked about the chance to have my baby back and finally get out of driving a 4cyl S10 that had well over 200k miles.

So where do we stand now? I just got new rims for the truck and will be mounting tires sometime in the near future, then hopefully re-gearing for the tires once and for all!

In the mean time, I might as well get around to the installation of free items like my headunit, satellite radio and other accessories. Look for pictures of the new install in the coming week or two.

 

What a great ending to the sad state of the current economy... It will be great to see the finished product...
