Eclipse vs. Pioneer
Eclipse vs. Pioneer
I recently acquired a '02 F-150 XLT 4X4, and I am interested in replacing the OEM CD/radio. I have always had Pioneers---have a 4800 in my '03 Taurus, but others on this forum have also mentioned Eclipse. Which one do you all prefer? Which one might be comparable to a 4800? I will also be replacing the factory speakers with 6X8's, as well. Since I am 51, I want good sound, but I do not need an amp or a subwoofer...

As I have one of each, I'll give you my "O"..
Eclipse CD2000 (low-end) in s'crew - the ***** don't stick out and it is difficult for my fat fingers to adjust while driving. Wish they would pop-out and pop-in like Pioneer. Display has that gas tube look in orangish red, that to me is not as sweet as some others.
Pioneer 4600 in Pathfinder - well you know Pioneer already, If you are doing the install yourself you can probably get more features for $ with Pioneer; and the new units look even nicer (to me) than my old 4600.
Inexpensive Eclipse units are Sirius compatible only. I think Pioneer goes both ways.
I've had no trouble with either one, and think the Eclipse fm is just as good as Pioneer.
Oh, and I highly recommend you amp it, even if you are an old fart!

Both are good brands, you really cant go wrong with either. I was always a Pioneer fan, bet ever since I went with an Eclipse, I dont think I will go with anything else.
But as I said, you cant go wrong with either one...

one thing... i got an Eclipse when i went off to school... and it was ripped off. i did get a NEW ONE given to me from Eclipse... it was a small town college and i think they did not know any better... i do know someone that had there system ripped off and they did not take the CD player (would have been easy! but most of those guys know they cannot do anything with an Eclipse after ripped off).
I have always had Pioneer decks and have loved them. You can get a top of the line pioneer for the price of a low to mid range Eclipse.
