Install Question - Key Forward
Install Question - Key Forward
Hey guys. I just installed a new radio in my 1999 F150. Everything works fine EXCEPT when i turn the key forward without starting the truck. The radio comes on, then turns off, then back on, then off then back on.. If i turn the key Backwards, the radio plays fine and when the truck is on the radio plays fine. What did i wire wrong?!
This is strange, but here's a few questions that need to be answered.
I suspect you may have got your acc and constant wires backwards? Do you keep your presets? Are you turning your key past "the normal on"
Your key rests in the forward position when you have the motor running, and the same spot prior to starting the motor-just before engaging the starter. Your deck SHOULD not know the difference. I suspect there may be a 'truck issue' if this is the case -not a deck issue'
Is it related to lights? Did you connect the deck ground to truck dimmer?

I got this resolved! When i got my radio stolen, they cut the connector so i installed this new radio by using an online Wire color guide - WELL, my problem was i was doing this very late at night in my hot garage... I got the Black wire with a purple stripe mixed up with the Brown wire with pink stripe mixed up. All is fine now...
Man, all that tape they wrapped the wires with eventually leaves black residue on the wires, and it totally threw me off...
