More Warranty ?s
OK. I have been reading all the posts about various mods voiding the warranty. Sooh, ... does, in fact, a chip change void the warranty? I have a SuperChip Flip Chip ... my Ford dealer installed it. They never said anything about such a mod voiding the warranty!
I personally called the warranty division at Ford and like I said in a previous post, they told me that just because you ask a dealer to install an aftermarket item to your truck, does NOT make it ok. I was told that ANY pulley/chip changes made by ANYONE would affect your warranty. Even if you/they used genuine FORD parts (for pulley) would affect your warranty if it was NOT the OEM part number. No matter who installed it. They also said that the dealer has NO say in what does or does not affect your warranty, only Ford warranty division does. Other than this, I have no idea.
well i'd assume since the dealer was nice enough to install it, that if something DID go wrong, they'd be nice enough to try and take care of ya and just not void your warranty right away.
but yeah, if thats what can be considered to cause the damage, it will void the warranty. and even if you take it out, they can tell you've had a chip in.
so be careful with the modding

Josh,
WTF?!! How can they tell if I've had a chip in it? ... if it's swapped out before goin' in for any warranty work? Is there some kind of P-ROM that's bein' written to? If so, where do we get new EPROMs?

i haven't done a chip yet, but i'm almost positive that if you go to put a chip in, the contacts are covered in a residue/waxy type stuff that you have to remove for the chip to work. They could tell that you've had a chip in there if the coating was removed
i'm not saying that this will be the 1st place that they'd check, but if something does go wrong, and they are looking for something to blame, they just might check that out to see.

OK, Josh, I know what you're talkin' about. It is a waxy substance around the connector pin-blade. It is called: "conformal-coating". It is easy to reapply. So, if you say they are looking for PHYSICAL "evidence" of a chip change to "point a finger at" in the event of required warranty work, then that's not a problem. I was really worried that Ford had installed some kind of in-line EPROM that could provide "history" through the diagnostics umbilical. Wheew! ... I was afraid that "big brother" knows what's best and was "taking care of us" ... again! ... just like FMC did for Harley after the "take-over" back in the 70's!!
Ford cannot do a thing if you chip your Harley. Check with Mike over on the Computer Chips forum. If you want to fight 'em after they say you modified things and caused a problem, you have a lot of backup. But, the best bet is to just remove the chip if you are going in for a major service problem -- it is very unlikely you will even have to go that far.
I did a lot of investigating prior to chipping my truck, and I don't worry a bit about the warranty. There is not much chance Ford won't honor anything that goes wrong with my HD, and if they do, I have lots of help.
