What is excessive post padding?

I just noticed that one of our members was suspended for 10 ten days for "excessive post padding".

Just goes to show that if you don't follow the rules, you get burned.

its what daveenders was doing last week on here. If you were on that night you know what i mean. He was trying to get to 100 posts so he would become a senior member, so he just made a bunch of pointless posts just to build up his post count. Seems he didn't even read the threads, just posted stuff that didn't make sense, but just to build the count. after he hit 100, he kept going to try and fill up the 1st few pages of the HD board with his name as the last poster. I know i post alot, but i try to make my posts helpful or whatever, not just "one more to 5K" posts Its not very considerate to the other members either cuz it pushes everybody elses posts that they had a question in or whatever and pushed em back to like the 3rd page, where they would most likely go unanswered.
But the webmaster stepped in and deleted the padded posts and restored some order over here. you should have seen it, it was a mess with all the old posts brought back from the dead and all

if ya can't play by the rules, don't expect to stay very long

Yup...

Josh and I were talking about it online. It was extremely annoying. Did he get suspended or banned? I had the idea he was banned and created a new account so got banned again. Whichever it is...hopefully it doesn't happen again.

This was the next logical step.
Several months ago there were members posting just to see their post count go up. This was a waste of the Webmaster's resources. It was like actually reaching into his pocket and taking money out.
It occured in the General Discussion Forum and after a warning, he decreed that posts made in GD would no longer count toward post count totals.

Everyone is different, some shrugged, some screamed and called him a Ogre. But, that's the way it was going to be.

It recently resurfaced when he had to re-index the counters. The re-indexing removed ALL posts counts EVER made in GD not just since it was turned off. If you were here more than six months ago and had posted in GD, those were in the total and then vanished.

People who had never engaged in post padding and weren't even aware of the above saga asked why their post counts decreased.
He restored GD counters.

Now rather than blanket punishment he goes after individual violators, much more work for him.

I've never seen this Suspended for 'x' days before.
Does the software automatically reinstate?
or does Steve have to keep track on a calendar somewhere and perform a manual function?

Will we have another counter besides posts?
Member Suspended xxx Times

What a nightmare!
If I was a webmaster there wouldn't be any suspensions.
I would ban you then find out where you live and burn your house down!

Technically, couldn't we all be blamed for a little padding if we posted on this thread?

I guess not, as long as we are saying something meaninful. . .wait was this post meaningful???

I, too, was curious about the post padding. The submitter in question really did make a mess of things. I check the site daily and can easily see the threads that have new posts from the previous day (one of the things I like over the other forum). After he was done the whole first page had posts from the offender with his signature which was like 2 pages long of pointless stuff.

Really made the site hard to navigate. Glad the offender was banned. If he comes back hopefully we will settle down!!

I agree about the post padding, but what about these overbearing sigs that are 1/2 a page long?

Just my two cents, so that makes four today:

Josh (who I believe is Harley356, I'm Robert by the way) never posts for filler. Yeah he posts a lot but I read a lot and I wouldn't read if it was boring. He genuinely has something new to offer each time and it adds value.

VAP = Value added posts, there's a concept!

I was on here when Daveendeer had all those posts and my reaction was like WTF...excuse my choice of words. I then went in to see if they had anything to offer and they didn't and I lost interest in the site for that day. Not a good thing.

So props to the policers (is that how you say it) anyhow to the webmaster for doing a good job.

On the sigs, if they are too long we won't read them. That is what the gallery is for. Post and show them there. If you frequent this site enough you know who has what. I don't read sigs anymore, only those of new members.

Long sigs IMO took or take away from the site and make the downloads longer. I may live in Silicon Valley but I still have 56K at home.

Okay I think that is all I wanted to say.

No wait, on the girl friend thing, don't let her drive the truck! How soon we forget about the guy who let his wife drive his truck only to have her ding the rim. Let us learn from other's mistakes!
