IF not an HD or L, then what

I have a 2001 black L. and continue to enjoy it, but am seriously thinking about getting something with more space.
The HD takes care of the interior space requirements and I like it's
looks, but I really need a longer bed which I can put a cover on.
I am partial to Ford, but open to any suggestions/comments. The
final "look" of the truck needs to be similar to HD or L., but the performance is not manditory

Thanks,

Rob

The options are kinda slim. If you want a crew cab, and a full size bed, then the GMC/Chevy 1500 HD is your choice. The 6.0 runs good, but you will really miss the power of the L.
Another option is the new Dodge 1500. It's "almost" a full size bed, and "almost" a crew cab. The power isn't bad, but I hear the mileage really sucks. You may want to wait a bit if you go with a Dodge. They are going to offer the new Hemi in the 1500 soon.

Beyond that your going to have to step up to a 250 series to stay with Ford...

One option (although not new, and not a crew cab) would be to pick up an '00 HD. You would get more interior room, a fullsized bed, and you would keep the looks of the L/HD. Of course, if you are to believe the rumors floating around, you can always wait a bit and pick up an F250 HD when/if they come out!

What's wrong with an F250 or F350 supercab?? You get the full size bed and 4 doors or you could go with the F250 extended cab. Yeah, the front ends are different but you can even get the V10 in it...and the best part....it is still a Ford!!

I was at a dealer this weekend measuring the seats in the center of the Super Duties (250s and 350s). -See the thread about the subwoofers- They had new V10 diesels for the same price I paid (around $34,000) after a manufacturer rebate of 3,000. I must say they are nice trucks, and a lot more truck for your money (size wise not performance). I know it isn't a L or HD but you could definately fit a Harley motorcycle in the bed, even with the 4 door trucks.

If you wanted to be different, you could do your own mods, and make your own L super duty - Chrome rims, modded engine, new exhaust, custome badges etc. Call it the Thunder Storm, or Hurricane or . . .okay, now maybe I am talking out my @$$

Is is Monday or what?

From the spy pics...it looks like they might be making the 2004 Supercrew with a full 6.5' bed.

i dunno, just looking at that pic, although its hard to tell for sure, it looks like that bed is the same length (5.5') as the screws beds by looking at how far up the fender well and tire is compared to looking at the flareside HD's, where infront of the wheel there is room for a whole step, and the rear still looks the same

Surfdog,

Just for curiosities sake, would you be interested in a trade for an unmolested 8,500 mile '00 H-D F150. The truck is super clean! If so, please reply with a full condition description.

Harley356,

Yea I'm off my meds again!

Thanks !

Guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Seeing the spy shot of the 2004 has helped me decide to hold off
a bit and see what is in the future.
To me it does look like the bed on the SC is proprtionally longer, so that would be a possibilty. Also the thought of a HD F250 sounds intriguing. I would just hope they can do something with the grill and lights.
FXDX, I appreciate the offer, but I would not achieve any bed -size improvement. I really need a minimum of 4" of additional diagonal length. I carry my windsurfing gear in my bed locked up
and the additional length would help with some lof my onger boards.

No prob Surf Dog. You must be in the market for an eight foot bed then or possibly a six and a half foot fleet side to gain any additional room over the 'L' since the '00 H-D F150 has the same box as the 'L' but is a Super Cab.

As for your dislike for the Super Duty front end styling, a friend of mine has a tricked out F350 with a custom billet grille and clear lights that looks absolutely wild!

After seeing the spy photo ricekicker posted, I got curious.

This is assuming that the wheel base is the same. I haven't done that much research so I am not sure.

-Thanks to chesterc's photo gallery for a picture of a super crew that was the closest to the same position (it took me a while to find one that was just right).
