Dyno'd the truck today...
I had the chance to see what HP is getting to the ground and here are my numbers:
RWHP-368.5 @ 4800RPMs RWTorque-453.9 @3200RPMs Calculated at the flywheel HP: 460.4 Calculated at the Flywheel Torque: 567.4 Mods: AF1 intake Diablo chip 4Lb upper pulley Gatorback belt Temp: 84 degrees F: humity 18% If I missed some information please let me know, I've never dyno'd before. The guys at the dyno shop were quite impressed, and I was quite proud! The shope that dyno'd the truck mostly sell parts to ricers. So the sound of a blown V8 created quite a crowd! The guy running the dyno stated that I lose a lot of power due to the two piece drive shaft, but not too much... Is this true? Next is the track! :rolleyes: |

Good question, so I called the shop and this is how they explaned it to me...
The fly wheel power was calculated by the Dyno machine computer buy estamating there is a 20% loss from the drive shafts to the wheels. So the numbers listed on my results sheet are formulated by that % loss, or RWHP / .80 = Calculated Flywheel HP... Is 20% loss too much, too little? Does this sound right? Let me know... Tranny Efficiency...
SVT claims that the tranny used in the Lightning (same as ours) and driveline are 11-15% efficient.
Does the Harley have a two peice drive shaft? |
Yes. It's a two piece due to the supercrew body length.

I had mine dyno'd as well recently.
It was at MagnaFlow's R&D center (BTW look for a new full high performance exhaust system from them early next year made special for the HDF150, they used mine for the prototype) and it put 318 hp to the rear wheels. Not too bad considering Ford's claims of 340 hp at the flywheel. That was with the stock exhaust system by the way. The new exhaust system adds about 22 hp. Yes. It's a two piece due to the supercrew body length. ya know you can put a one piece in there, its not a 2 piece cuz the screw body length. Your truck is the same exact length and wheelbase as my 00 extended cab. The 00 and 01 HD's have an aluminum one piece driveshaft exactly like the L's, except a little longer. And the screws and s-cab harleys are the same lenght, one has longer bed and shorter cab, the other vice versa. they have the same frame and wheelbase. So if you really wanted, you could get a driveshaft from a 00 or 01 HD and put it in. Save weight and its a one piece. Although, you just might be better off getting like a cf one insead??? not sure on teh price difference. I know one member here had a superduty putting down 900+ ft/lbs of tq in his truck with the same 2 piece driveshaft the 02's have. They can handle the power. |
I think your calculation of drivetrain loss is correct.

Upon futher rewiew; the calclauted loss should be about 15% not 20%, this from ford SVT, they claim the one piece drive shaft is much more efficant that the two, but 20% is a bit high...
So if you re-do the math for a 15 % loss the new numbers are: 433.5 HP at the flywheel 534 ft/Lbs torque at the flywheel. This all seens moot, all that matters is what meets the ground...in my humble opinon. This much HP for a "daily driver family wagon"; i'm quite happy! :D |
You are still creating HUGE amounts of power. I can't wait for your track times. Who will be first into 12's? .... or has cobra already made it?

cobra is sooooo close, but not far enough :rolleyes: His best so far that he's told me is 13.07? i know it was 13.0something. Not long until he hits 12's though if he hasn't already. Hopefully he'll make it to Etown on sunday and i'll video tape his run and upload it for all the nonbelievers :p

My stock '02 HD dyno'd at 313 rwhp - an 8% loss from the advertised 340 hp. After installing a 6 lb JLP pulley and Diablo chip, Accufab throttle body and low retriction air cleaner, I dyno'd at 378 rwhp. Using the 8% loss, I calculate 411 hp at the flywheel. BTW torque increased from 381 to 455 and boost went from 7.5 lbs stock to 12 lbs, no knock, nice flat and fat air/fuel ratio (11.5:1).
