How's this setup?
I just got my 02 HD last monday and have already put an exhaust so now I'am looking for more power but not too over the edge :) How does this sound:
4pd Lower Pulley Boost Bypass Kit Breather Cap Single Throttle Body Superchip-Reprogrammed (That take into account the breather cap, throttle body, and additional boost from the pulley) Intake Electric Fans Does anyone see anything that I'am missing? I'am not planning to take it to the races every weekend if at all. I just want to give her a little more omph. These mods above should be okay as far as the tranny and driveline go right? Not too much stress I hope. BTW, what kinda hp gains do you believe it would provide? I would guess about 60-80 HP would that be about right? I assume that I would have to install everything at once otherwise the computer would be outta whack with all those mods? As always thanks for any help! |
Sounds good to me...Throttle Body is an unnecessary and expensive mod - You might want to spend the money elsewhere
|
How about a pro-cooler from JLP? Cools the intercooler temperature down.
|
Thanks for the suggestions...I'll look into the cooler. Thanks again!
|
Both the Powercooler and Supercooler from JLP require ice to work. They are only reasonable for track...unless you carry ice in the bed and refill it every once in a while. One goes under the hood in replacement of the battery and the battery is relocated and another larger version can be stored in the bed.

...and by the way...with these mods, 80HP sounds like a good number. You should take it to the track...I would expect Mid 13's - Next thing you can get are some Traction Bars and a Sway bar...maybe even a pair of high performance tires for better traction. Also...it is recommended to get a high performance water pump with the Electric fan. They run around $100 so it's no biggy and should give you a few more horsies. Also...a Torque Coverter wouldn't be a bad idea to lower those E.T.'s(if you have money to spare on one...they can run pretty expensive) Also...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you get a one piece driveshaft (which comes on the L's) Our HD's have a two-piece - You don't want to break anything and this might also help in power loss from the crank to the rear wheels. Good luck on the modding!

ricekicker, do you have a 02 HD??? I thought you had a 00 but you said "Our HD's have a two-piece ..."
anyway, since the L's are shorter, you'll have to get a driveshaft from a 00 or 01 HD. They are aluminum like the L's but are longer. (00 and 01's are the same cuz same wheelbase) |
I agree with ricekicker on the water pump.Probaly a thermostat also. One more thing-Spark plugs.Once you start modding the stock plugs need to go.A denso or NGK plug is in order.
Since you are using a superchip then Mike Troyer or JDM engineering for the proper burn. I have an L. Stock was 361 rwhp-430 rwtq With the mods you are doing I had 393rwhp -495rwtq.So 70 or 80 hp is a little optimistic. VINNIE |
I have a '01...but i thought all the Harleys had the two-piece - why would they put a weaker driveshaft in the '02s which we all know have more power
|
ricekicker, the two piece drive shaft is new for 02. I think i remember reading that they put a two piece drive shaft on the 02's for less vibration and a better ride or something like that. I know it doesn't make much sense. Anyway, i know my 00 has an aluminum single piece driveshaft exactly like the L's have, except a little longer (I'm crawling under the truck all the time for oil changes, and just to check it out under there and clean. LoL. I could have sworn that the 01's had the same thing. If they don't (but it wouldn't make much sense) then you would have a steel driveshaft, but not a 2 piece, thats new. Go out and look under your truck. :)

I think the 00 and 01 yoke is smaller diameter. The L and 02 HD has the "large bushing" extension housing and I'm not sure it's availible on the 4R70W (the earlier HDs had the smaller tranny). I think you can switch the yoke onto the one piece driveshaft but I'd check first...

Harley...I believe you...but like you said - it doesn't make much sense. I don't experience any vibration or anything like that on my '01 - but it is still a good idea for any of you with '02s that are modding to intall a one-piece
