Trying to do a 1"front/2"rear drop but how?
Trying to do a 1"front/2"rear drop but how?
I seems as though the max you can do a rear with just shackles is 2". Any more than that and you probably have to change shocks. I don't want to change shocks and I don't want it slammed so I think I'll just go 2" drop Belltech shackles on the rear. Also add a sway on the rear. I don't want the truck level. I want just a slight rake to it so I want to drop the front 1". I don't want to have to change the shocks on the front so 1" drop shold be safe. Problem is, they all seem to advertise a 2" drop, although that's for a std F150. Our HD's are already 1" lower in the front, so does that mean a 2" drop coil for a regular F150 would put the HD down 1"?? Seems like it would.
I tow some with it and I just don't want it slammed and ruin the ride, but I do have to close in that gap a little, and I can't believe Ford didn't put a factory sway on the back of these things, what were they thinking??

Looks like both Ground Force and Belltech will get me a 1/2 drop. One says I need the pinion shims, one says I don't. Not sure on that one.
Any of you that changed out the springs on the front, how did you do it. Can't get a compressor in there. I'd hate to think you have to take A arm bolts out or pop the ball joint to get it apart enough to take out the coils. That would suck but it looks like what is needed.
Any info or hints??

I didn't need shims for mine. If you go more than 2 inches in the rear then more than likely you will need a 2 degree wedge . Now that is with my set up. As far as the front, it's too easy. You don't need a compressor. You need a few wrenches and sockets and a cressent wrench. All you have to do is get the frame jacked up and supported. Take the sway bar end off, diconnect the anti-lock brake sensor from the spindle and the 2 holding clips one ont the shock and the other one is ont upper a arm. Getting those clips disconnected is the hardest part. Disconnect the brake line bracket (10mm bolt) from the lower control, disconnect the tire rod end, take the shock out, place a jack under the lower ball joint and put some tension back on the spring, take the upper A arm bolts out ( look at the way the allignment shims are in there) then the A arm will be free. Lower your jack slowley untill it is low enough to take the spring out. Take the rubber cap off the spring and place it on your new one and put it back together. You will have to get the truck allighned after you lower it. This whole process took me 1.5 hours for both sides. It's too easy. I was nervous at first but when I got into it, it was streight foward.
If you have any questions let me know or if you get stuck on something give me a call I'll try my best to help out.
