how many hd's

anyone know how many 2001 hd trucks ford plans to produce?

JaxHarley Oct 4, 2001 03:26 PM

number ive heard was between 10 and 15 thousand.

ricekicker Oct 4, 2001 03:42 PM

I believe the production numbers are 6500 for the US and 8000 in the entire world (1500 outside of US)

ricekicker Oct 4, 2001 03:46 PM

JaxHarley is DEFINATELY WRONG...They made 8000 units for 2000 (I am sure) there is no way they would make 10,000-15,000 of them in 2001. I remember reading it somewhere that it was 6500 in US but I am not completly sure if it was 1000 or 1500 internationally sold. Overall...I am most absolutely positive w/o doubt that they produced less than 9000 total units.

JaxHarley Oct 4, 2001 05:00 PM

Umm..so your saying that given ford COMPLETELY sold out of the 2000 model when they only made 8000 of them. That they decided to make 1500 LESS the next year?

I dont buy that at all.

Not saying that either of us are wrong...but how exactly do you figure that what you read is gospel...yet what I read is "Definately Wrong"

harleyrules Oct 4, 2001 05:11 PM

I read somewhere that the numbers were between 12,000-15,000 for the 2001 model year

BlownHarleyFord Oct 4, 2001 05:22 PM

Well Ricekicker,

YOU are definately wrong. Direct numbers from the Oakville Plant manager (which I talked face to face with) stated that 2000 production numbers were no more, and no less than 7500 units. The Oakville Plant was the only plant that was contracted to assemble the 2000 production models (not including prototype models). So settle down a bit,

Mike

thanks, i think

i appreciate all the feed back but i kinda feel like i just asked a politician a question. i got a lot of response but i'm not quite sure if my question was answered. LOL. well i do know at least 6,105 were made cause that one is mine. what other numbers are out there?

HarleyGuy Oct 4, 2001 10:05 PM

Limited Production

Well, 2000 production WORLD WIDE was under 8000. And, a lot of HD trucks were sold out of this country. I don't have figures for what was sold in the USA, but I can get them.

I talked to some of the Engineers at Ford on the HD project when I ordered mine, Lots of friends in Dearborn MI area. They indicated to me at the time that the target was 8000 units total (built in the KC plant only). Ford didn't want to flood the market with them and diminish the exclusivity that they tried to design into them.

Harley#356 Oct 5, 2001 08:41 PM

yeah for 2000, they only made 7500 in total. no more no less. and for 2001 i believe they make 8000, about 98% sure about the 2001s. And the reason they wouldn't make a bunch more harleys the next year is because they are LIMITED EDITION, so they aren't going to go making 20,000 of em just cause they can sell em. they need to keep them a rare species. :)
