Safety Recall 01S24 for Harley-Davidson Trucks?
Received a recall for the HD truck today (recall 01S24) concerning failure of the windshield intermittent wipers along with possible melting of the plastic wiper motor cover, potentially resulting in smoke and/or localized FIRE! Yikes!!!
Supposedly, certain 2000 and 2001 vehicles cars and trucks are affected by this recall. Now, I admit I don't drive much in the rain
but, I'm still concerned about this. Anyone else bring their trucks in for this one yet?

I went in today to my Ford dealer to discuss the recall. The service manager (a friend, btw -- I live in a small town) said it would take the tech about 1/2 hour to do. They are going to replace the cover assembly/switch on the windshield wiper motor and they have the new covers in stock. I set up an appt. next week -- might as well just get it done and not have to worry about it. I did tell the service guy that I want his best mechanic working on my HD!
The Lightning people are getting this recall, too. My thought is that it is for the Fords built in Canada, but that is purely a guess at this point. Am sure someone will pop in and correct me.
If other F-150 owners are getting this recall, am hoping they respond to let us know!

Dates affected and more on wiper recall.
I posted this over in the Engine Area, too, but figured it deserved a duplicate post for the HD bunch in case they don't get over that way. I cancelled my appt. to get it repaired as I'm still debating if it's worth bringing it in have them mess around with it -- especially since it's not driven in the rain!
Anyhow, here's the post:

I really HATE bringing my Harley truck into the dealer. They goob it all up, leave the windows down so dirt blows in, and make for an hour or more cleanup job when it gets home. And, that is presuming that the job it was in there for was done correctly in the first place!
I was attempting to find out more info on this wiper motor recall so I could inspect the motor myself and came across this tidbit on BON as to how to get at the motor and the dates affected:
First remove wiper arms , remove cowel vent cover on drivers side, can't remember how motor is mounted on the truck , wiper module may have to be removed which requires hinge to be moved, there may be a sticker on the motor which has to be lifted up to reveal the birthday of the motor, affected build date 02-10-00 / 06-26-00.
I removed the driver's side wiper, and pulled up the cowling and could clearly see the motor underneath, but I didn't see a sticker on mine, so I put it back together. To really get at the motor, I think one needs to remove both wipers and both sides of the cowling. (It took more effort than I had expected to get at it, btw.)
Guess it's going to have to go in eventually.

I finally took care of this recall today. They gave the job to their top technician and the job was done in 45 minutes. The recall is for the wiper "cover," but it includes some electrical contacts, etc. as well that are located on the cover. It basically completely repairs the bad wiper motor probs.
I told the service manager that I am pretty (VERY. Hahaha) particular and when the job was done and I was signing off, the tech was out wiping down the hood and then he popped the hood and cleaned the engine compartment. GOOD JOB!

got my recall today--do I wait or get it fixed..assume if anyone had smoke with the wipers on we would have had a posting or two ?? I'm inclined to the if it ain't broke don't fix it philosophy...now I notice a slight drip of water on the passenger side of the windshield....
I received my recall notice a couple of days after my original post. I had the work done on 9/1 and it only took an hour or so. If you schedule early in the morning you could almost wait for it to be done. I don't like taking any vehicle in for service unless I can't do it myself. My friend's Infinity is having problems with the MAS and it has been in and out of the shop for a while. Although they have given his some kick a$$ loaners while the car was in the shop.
