Supercharger Intercooler

Hello All

As some of you might know, intercoolers are usually used with superchargers to keep incoming air cooler and protects your engine from detonating and helping out in the mileage department. ATI/Procharger has developed a really nice Air to Air intercooler which keeps the air cooler than water-air.

I was wondering, can you have an intercooler WITHOUT a supercharger to keep incoming air cooler or can it only be used with a supercharger?

Thanks

The reason intercoolers are used on turbo/supercharged engines is that the air being compressed in the turbo/sc is heated to a degree not normally experienced by regular car intakes.

The intercooler doesnt really make the air cooler than the outside air, it merely brings the air temp back down to a normal range after being compressed by the boost device.

Adding it to a normally aspirated engine would provide you with very little gain, in fact, you would probably lose HP due to the interruption in airflow.

The intercooler would be a MASSIVE restriction on airflow to a naturally aspirated engine.

I used the ATI 3 core air/air intercooler on my 96Z28 and it did help, but not a lot.

Dude...there is no way

The Air/Air intercooler would have Zero effect on intake air temperature.

Your trying to cool air using air thats the exact same temperature as the air your trying to cool.

The intercooler might be a tad cooler due to all the fins...but it would be an umeasurable difference.
