If I don't have a Ford can I still visit?????

Well I will be selling my Lightning in the next week or two if all goes right.

I just wanted to thank everybody for all their help. This is one of the best sites I have been to on the web. So does being Fordless mean I can't come back to visit?

Just for the record I have had no problems with my Lightning and I must say Ford, at least SVT makes one hell of a truck. I hope everybody has as good a luck with theirs as I have.

I am only getting rid of it because I really need something a bit more practical and it really is too much vehicle to drive on a daily basis. Driving a Lightning is like being one of the fastest gunslingers in town and everybody wants a piece of you. It is fun sometimes but gets old too, not to mention that I am sure it is going to get me into trouble sooner or later.

Anyway I just wanted to thank everybody for their help and I will still be lurking and answer any questions I can.

Sure you can still visit,as long as you don't buy a chevy :) If your looking for something economical why not try an f-150 or a ranger?

Nope not a Chevy.

Actually I am going back to my Tundra. It really isn't about economics as much as practicality.

I originally had a Tundra but had to get rid of it so my Fiance could get her dream car. I ended up with the Lightning because I got a great deal and figured I would pick up a fun vehicle to bide my time until I could afford to get another Tundra.

I have had a blast with my Lightning but the Tundra is really the perfect truck for me. It is just the right size, great power and hauls all I will ever need to. Flame away.

Fords are great trucks but I just don't like the 5.4 litre in anything but the Lightning. Not that it isn't a great engine it is just a perceived feeling by me. It just doesn't sound and feel right to me. Just a personal preference. Now in the Lightning it sounds wicked and well feels mighty impressive too.

I did look long an hard at the SCREWs though. Those are sweet trucks. Just too big for me. I want my truck to fit in my garage. Besides a fully loaded SCREW gets out of my price range.

The Tundra is not the perfect truck but it is the perfect one for me in size, ride, power, handling, comfort, hauling and reliability.

The sheet metal could be a bit thicker and the interior could be designed a bit better but other than that it is perfect for me and I have missed mine since getting rid of it. The things we do for our women........sigh.

One More Thing

Full Size or not, whatever your opinion is, The Tundra sure as hell is a full size wash and wax, lemme tell ya.

Iwao Apr 25, 2002 12:11 PM

Cslinger,

I can't believe a fully loaded Tundra is any cheaper than a fully loaded Screw.

I was pretty surprised how much a loaded toyota prerunner (tacoma) four door cost.

I can respect your choice. To each his own. I had a buddy at work who had a pretty bad experience with a ford a few years back and now drives a Dodge 1500. He said, considering Fords track record with him and the whole Firestone tire thing, he could never respect me if I bought a Ford. Dodge, chevy, Toyota anything but a ford.

I really respect the guy but I had to go with what fit best for me and my family. I figured, no one but me would live day in and day out with the truck so I went with the Screw.

So happy driving with whatever you choose.....:D

ok so what was the fiance's dream car?
got to know what you'd give up a truck that you really loved for :)

trapper Apr 25, 2002 12:55 PM

Good question, I was wondering the same thing.

I'm toying with the idea of buying a new vehicle also.
Right now I'm looking at a Toyota SUV. I just need more
room for the new kiddie.

cslinger Apr 25, 2002 01:44 PM

Fiance's dream car.

Well my fiance' has always wanted a Lexus RX300. She isn't exactly a person who goes ga ga over vehicles but out of everything she has ever driven it is her perfect vehicle bar none.

Well we could never really afford one until we came across a really good deal and on a whim I told the salesman if I traded my truck plus no extra cash and we could get to the payments and terms we wanted we would take it.

To be honest I figured what the heck, they will never go for it and I look like a hero. Much to my chagrin it was a slow month and about 9:00 at night when he came back and said congratulations on your new Lexus. HUH? I said. Oh well how many people can say they bought their fiance her dream car.

The SCREW is actually about 3 grand more option for option after haggling but, does of course have more room. It will not, however, fit in my garage.

I can't stand Toyota as a company but I'll be damned if they don't make excellent vehicles. Kind of a quandry for me actually I hate giving money to them but it just happens that the make my future wife's dream car and my perfect truck. Ohhh well, I have said it once and I will say it again.....I truely wish that everybody in the world could have my problems. I am very blessed.

Which Yota SUV are you looking at Trapper?

The Highlander is very nice inside it is almost identical to our RX300, actually I wanted her to get that instead as I thought it looks nicer on the outside. The

The Sequoia is awesome but big bucks, the third row seats fit me comfortably and were easy to get to and I am 5'11" 240lbs.

I don't really like the current 4Runner, too much money for too little substance IMHO. The next generation should be awesome from what I am reading.

My only advice is try to buy through a buying service because Toyota dealers SUCK.....I mean SUCK.

If you take care of them most of them will take care of you. Most of the autos out there are pretty good today. Hell I know people with KIAs who are having great luck with them.

Me personally I could never drive a car with the initials KIA, you do the math.

Why would your friend not respect you for driving a Ford. I would hope the respect or lack thereoff that I have is not based on what I drive.

I was very happy with my Ford truck. Put together almost as well as my Toyota was, and had much better interior door panels and sound deadening. Ford makes a great truck, I mean you can't not have a good product and be the best selling vehicle in the world for 20 some years. People can argue fleet sales etc....but it was the best selling vehicle in the world. That ain't from fleet sales alone.

Good luck with your Ford, I am sure you will get many years of good service out of it and I think you are going to see good things from Ford in the next 5-8 years with Billy Ford at the helm. It is more then a job for him it is a legacy he has to protect.

I believe it was the highlander. I really have'nt had
a good look yet at the inside though. I'm 6'4", so
my options are limited as to what I can get. How
spacious is the inside of the RX?

Ford4ever Apr 25, 2002 04:21 PM

I'm a Toyota tech so i can say the Tundra is a decent truck, can't wait till the 4 door version comes out next year. I stick to Ford for pickup trucks but i wouldn't mind having a Sequoia Limited.

cslinger,
yeah , you can stick around even if you do get a yota ...
ya never know when the subject of gun's & ammo will come up and you might need to put in your 2 cents worth . :p

Iwao Apr 26, 2002 01:29 AM

Cslinger,

yeah well you know how some people can have a bad experience with a product and just go crazy over it. Well this guy had a bad experience with a ford and just hated them ever since. It's not like he won't talk to me or anything. I just get the feeling he is waiting for my Screw to break down on me so ha can say "I told you so" .

All I can say is I washed my truck today after a light rain yesterday and damn I think it looks great. I'm going to have the front rollups tinted next week and starting to shop around for a soft tonnaue. I love this truck.

seacrow Apr 26, 2002 05:50 AM

cslinger,

I completely understand your dilemna. After all of my recent Ford problems, I am faced with looking at new trucks. I am disgusted at Ford right now. I love the looks of the new colors and features but I get sick to my stomach thinking of buying one. I have test driven 10 Tundras in the past 4 months or so. Every time I see a Tundra in a new color, I drive it. It makes me sick to abandon Ford too. I have owned 2 Rangers and 3 F-150s. My wife blew a fuse and bought a Highlander. We have not one little squeak out of it. It is a perfect vehicle. I like the Tundra a lot but for some reason I just can't do it yet. I am just totally wigged out after a really bad Explorer, a somewhat bad Taurus and this F-150 I have has been the pits. I don't know what to do. I will still talk to you though, I understand. IN the not so distant future, I may just get mad enough to buy a Tundra Limited Access Cab with leather captains chairs. I still think that Ford has the best overall trucks options and ideas, they just haven't been screwing them together right for the last year or so. Or, I got a really bad one this time.

IN the meantime, I am driving the Highlander to Atlanta today. My wife insisted I not drive the truck since the last time I drove it to Atlanta, it stalled on me pulling in to traffic. The truck is sitting here and she is gonna ride with my sister for a few days. My wife won't drive my $30,000 truck because it scares her. Pretty sad huh?

cslinger Apr 26, 2002 09:44 AM

Trapper,

Are you 6'4" and a big guy? I say that not as a slight, as I am a big guy, although I am short fat and squatty all A$$ no body. I think the Highlander has lots of room inside even if you are kind of wide. The head room is great for a vehicle but 6'4" kinda limits you. I have a lot of tall friends and they have problems looking for cars. You will definitely have more headroom then most cars you could try.

To be honest though my next door neighbor is about 6'6" and a big man. Like linebacker big. The cars he has been most comfortable in, trucks aside, have been the new VW Beetle and the Honda Odyssy(sp) mini-van. They own the Honda now. As for the Beetle I would have to see it to believe it. We actually did squeeze him into a Honda S2000 with the top up and doors closed. God I wish I had picture it was like some strange college prank.

Seacrow, I don't believe you would regret the Tundra one bit, unless you really need a full on WORK truck. The Tundra is a light duty half ton perfect for most of us but don't expect to haul four pallets of shingles or anything. Ford makes a good product contrary to you unfortunite problems. You just got a bad one, it happens especially when you are producing millions of vehicles.

Psychologically I would probably suggest getting another brand, any other brand simply because, if you are like me you will always be waiting for your next Ford to break and when something does happen no matter how insignificant you will be angry. Don't buy Toyota just because you are sure it will be bulletproof for 10,0000000000 miles because it won't. They do actually break, Glocks jam too. I do think Toyota and Honda make the best cars as far as reliability and fit and finish go but things happen with any brand. That being said I love the Tundra it is my perfect truck and my Fiance loves her Lexus.

Is it 4:00 yet?

Chris
