I'm going to Tennessee for training...

In April I'll be going for training in Tennessee. Nashville and Springhill area. I was wondering if there was anyplace I could go fishing easily. I mean show-up to the marina, rent a boat, catch a couple bass, and drink a couple cool ones?

I only have evenings free, and one weekend. Lookin forward to my visit.
Thanks for any advice and help

Well the land between the lakes is about an hour or so away from there I sure there are some other lakes near the Nashville area I live about 170 miles west of Nashville sorry I can't be any more help to you so what kind of training are you going to do.

Saturn training.
If fishing turns out to be a hassle I might head over Nashvilles short track or Memphis for some stock car action.

Everyone I've talked to that goes for training says Nashville is great (but they all blow alot drinking too). I was just trying to get some ideas for my only free weekend there. I'll be there 2 weeks. I haven't been fishing down south since I was 8 years old.

inski21,

you will be surrounded by 2 beautiful lakes with boat access everywhere. Percy Priest Lake and Old Hickory Lake. Another place is Long Hunter State Park right out of Nashville, maybe 15 minutes. They have rentals, nothing great, a 14 foot jon with a trolling motor. but, it's a small lake, very easy to get around in and chock full of big bass and crappie. i've caught several largemouth over 6lbs. and one smallie over 4 lbs. out of that lake. good luck on your trip and let me know if you need any more detailed info. i'll be glad to help you out. Rich.

Good info, thanks. Exactly what I'm lookin for.
Other questions arrise.
1. Do I need an out of state licence?
2. Where can I get one?
3. Best bait/lures? Are there any illegal baits/lures?
4. Can I get a rental car from or near by Embassy Suites, Cresent Centre Dr, Franklin(So. Nashville)?

inski21,

yep, you will need a out-of stater. go to Wal-Mart. you can get a pass for several days. i think they're pretty cheap. baits? depends on what you're fishing for. most of all your standard Good baits will work. fish whatever you're comfortable throwing. tell me what you're going for and i'll tell you what works best for me. i don't know about the rental, but i'm sure your hotel should be able to fix you up. send me the dates you're going to be here and i may could work it out to pick you up and take you to some good spots. if you like rainbow trout there's a killer stream about an hour drive from Nashville. later, Rich.

Don't know about fishing, but if you're gonna see some stock car stuff, you'd better come up to the world's fastest half mile, BRISTOL!

I get an out of state f.l. every year, I rarely fish in this state, seems like all of the really good lakes are surrounding states, we have a few here, but they're really not that close. Plus, my Dad lives right on Cherokee Lake in Morristown, TN, and that's all he does is fish, he watches it on tv, reads about it, then goes fishing! If I want to talk to him, I have to have a liscence.
Runs me anout 29 dollars a year, but I think you can get a 2 week pass for right at 15 dollars, I am not sure, but they do have better deals than buying the year long. Enjoy your stay (try to make it a mini-vacation), and happy fishing!

hikerrick,
Fishin for anything will be great. When the schedule is ironed out I'll give you a yell. "Guided" fishing sounds cool. I wonder if the airlines still allow fishing gear.

I forgot Bristol is Tenn country too.
