GM's intelligence

Geez, it's been a long time since I have been on here. Anybody even remember me?

Anyways, I have a good story. Hope this is a first for you guys, b/c it is for me.

I'll make a long story short. My boyfriend works for the Pontiac dealership here in Stillwater, OK. He told me about a Lightning that just got traded in - he knows I'm a ford fanatic. I've seen this truck before, I knew it wasn't real. It's not a Lightning. It's a stock white 2000 reg cab flareside XLT w/ chrome grille/mirrors - the only thing not stock is the Lightning badges and SVT rims. They didn't even check to see if the 5.4L engine it did have was supercharged - even though the total lack of Lightning options should of sent up a red flag. Anyways, the General Manager even approved to trade the "Lightning" for a Tahoe. They didn't even run the VIN, they just looked at it and assumed the L in the VIN stood for Lightning. Now they are kicking themselves in the butt. They know what it is now......after they gave the owner too much money for it.

I think this little mix up is to be blamed on both parties. The owner for allowing them to think (and he probably made the claim) it was something it was not and the dealership for not knowing the car market. What is going to be done about it? I don't know. The dealership will more than likely put too high of a price on the truck.

Heck yeah, I remember you!
I was thinking about ya once or twice wondering . . .

Geeez that "Lightning" story is too good! LMAO!

This would be fraud on the part of the seller.

Let 'em know I'll be showing up with my '95. If they paid good money for a regular F-150, they are sure to put down plenty of smack for mine.

These 4x4 Lightnings are the hardest to get your hands on. :)

hell, if they thought it was a lightning without even having the bumper maybe i should try my luck and get about 25,000 out of my 6 cyl.:D

Man, I saw this Dakota yesterday. He'd get big bucks for his truck. Whole thing bright yellow, including bumpers and mirror. A hard tonneau, also yellow, with a big dumb wing.

But wait....

It was a SuperBee Dakota. The sticker on the tailgate said so. He'll get lots of money at this dealer.

hummm maybe i can put a couple grand into my truck and sell it as an L:D

jryager Nov 10, 2001 07:25 PM

crazedf1, just remember though, you would have to trade it at a GM dealership :D:D

I've been too busy w/ work and school to get into conversations on here like I used too.
I just rolled 100K miles and it's still running like a champ. It's getting a stereo/speaker makeover for Christmas and possible lowering in the spring (taking off the running boards of course).

I hate that Pontiac dealership, I was up there a few years ago looking at firebirds and the salesman was a real d*ck. And alot of them still are. The boyfriend says they are not too bright there. And to make matters worse....my boyfriend traded in his cute lowered ranger for a 2001 gmc sierra. I can't wait till it gets lowered, it will be a big improvement in its appearance.

they are fools for not examing that truck for authenticity since they obviously don't know what a Lightning is. It was a Texan who pulled off the scheme. I'm not sure if the guy let them believe it was a L or if he told them that it was a L. But I'm sure he's happy w/ the $24-$28K they gave him when he should of got $15-$17.

GM stands for what? stupid general manager that let that deal happen? or goffy moron?

Raoul Nov 13, 2001 11:44 AM

When I trade my truck with it's Cadillac hood ornament, I'm going to Stillwater, OK.
