Updated Motorcraft Oil Filters

While at my local WM this morning I had a look see in the oil and filters section. I noticed the MC oil filter boxes had a new look to them. So, I opened an FL-400S and checked it out. The bypass valve looks like it has been extended about a 1/2". I haven't GOOGLED it yet, but I bet they did more than extend the bypass valve. I guess I will have to cut one open to see if there are any more improvements with the internal parts. Has anyone else noticed any improvements with the other MC oil filters?

They probably switched OEM's. They *were* Purolator.

Yeah, Purolator has made MC oil filters for quite awhile now. But, the last few years, Purolators line of oil filters have been having some major issues with filter media tearing near the end caps. Then, these tears started showing up in some of the most popular MC oil filters. If they changed manufacturing companies, this was the reason for it. But, it would be nice to know whom it is (if they DID switch).

What do you use a 400 on? Aren't all the modern. Trucks either 820s or 500s?

So, they were fed up with the torn filter media from Purolator, huh? Is CL's any better than Purolator (less the tearing media)?
Are you a member at BITOG?

They are made per Ford specifications, not to a compromise of an existing product.

No and won't be.

I still have a box of the "original" larger filter media.

They aren't "for sale"... hehe :)

Looks like filter manufacturers have been buying and selling off a lot lately. It looks like Fram and Champion are owned by the same company now. Wix and Purolator are owned by another company. Apparently there are only 4 companies that make oil filters now.

The Fram Extra Guard is still an orange can of death.

GLC, I couldn't agree more!
You want to know why I like the OCOD so much? They are very bright to hone in on at 100 yards + when using them as AR-15 target practice!

Are you referring to when the canister was longer? The FL-400S used to be a bigger filter.
