aftermarket tune warranty
anyone done this or looked into it.
http://www.stage3motorsports.com/Sta...tom-Tunes.html
buy a 5 star ecoboost tune and get a warranty for $500 5 year /60k
or roush has a tune, intake and optional warranty.
http://www.roushperformance.com/part...ck-level1.html
plus $500 for 3 year 36k warranty
seems like $500 for a warranty is cheap insurance for these trucks.

They started that maybe 2 years ago. Havent heard anything bad like its a scam etc. 5 star is known for really safe tunes even though they are pretty mild compared to others. I had 3 t star tunes on my 2013 and probably put 20k on them and i always said its the way the truck should've come from the factory. Then i found MPT that i put 50k on and never touched my 5 star again so to speak

ordered the Roush.

couple of reasons. the dealer i purchased truck from is a Roush dealer, feel like they will be more mod friendly.
for resale, the roush name carries weight.
they tell me i can run 87, 91 or 93 octance with no problem, truck just makes less power. maybe they all do that, i dont know.
I paid extra to have it dynoed, so when i get it i will post results.
i desided on just the tune and intake kit, no exhaust. i just dont like the sound of loud v-6

Can't fault you for that. That is the one thing I wish was better on these engines. The intake sounds are all good, the exhaust note is lacking. My Audi S4 has a turbo V6 and it sounds pretty good. I wish the truck sounded more like it.

SO FOR FUN, i added my lightning dyno over the ecoboost dyno.
PSI did the work and dynoed both. High recommend them if you need work done in the Houston area. very professional.
I think that what roush has done is added the boost slowly to where a custom tune dumps more boost down low. makes sense that to cover a warranty they would do this. to really see the difference you need to be is sport shift mod and let it shift a little latter, it is a nice upgrade.

looking at the stock gauge, looks like 19
the roush tune applies boost as it goes. i think the custom after market tunes are dumping higher boost. lower in the rpm range, this is why they make more tq at a lower rpm, this is also why roush can offer a warranty (my guess)
my best guess is that the truck was a 14.3 to 14.5 stock and now it is a 13.6 to 13.7 truck 1/4 mile.
i have an older passport device that measures acceleration. when my lightning was stock it would 0-60 in 6.3 and 1.4 mile at 14.7 *the track was 14.1. the other night i was 0-60 in 5.7 in the ecoboost, i ran a 1/4 mile but had to let out at the end. meter said 14.3 but i think i let out to soon so a 14.2 or 14.1 is in there.
baytown 1./4 mile is closed for the season, next spring i will run it. wish i had ran it stock.
