I'm ready for Ford to move on from the Raptor and bring back the Lightning! Enough already with the bulbous off-roader -- bring us back a nice factory street truck......

 

I'd have to agree with the Lightning. We had a bunch of ranchers here buy the Raptors for ranch use and they all but failed miserably at a ranch truck. They just couldn't take the beating. I don't know of one left on the ranches anymore. It's a rich wannabes asphalt jungle, go anywhere, almost truck looking vehicle in my book. I think there would be far more Lightnings sold than the very seldom seen Raptor. Jeez, we see more Nissan Titan XDs than Raptors in my area of Texas. Lightnings used to be fairly common. Don't know who the father is though. Probably the Ford SVT bunch.

 

I'm surprised they aren't making the Lightning with the turbocharged engines they have now.

I like the Raptor though. Why can't they just make both?

Tremor was Ford testing the market for a street truck before going off the deep end. Sales were miserable at best based on how they priced it. End of the day no one wanted to pay 40k+ for a V6 regular cab

 

To add to what Patman said. The motor offered in the tremor was the same eco offered in other trucks. nothing exclusive. They should have bumped hp and gone with simpler truck If the raptor goes high 13 s at 5500 pounds. Imagine a single single cab model with regular size rims. In the raptors defense. They sale better than the lightning did.

Every time I roll out my lightning it is funny how much smaller it is than my f150 Harley I think the raptor motor in my lightning (sounds like a cool project for a gen 2 lightning) would be a 12 second ride

 

Agreed, but I did like that you could get the tremor in a 4x4. Traction wasn't an issue. It was outrageously priced for what it was. If they would only bring it back with the H.O. Eco or a 5.0 with a "in-house" supercharger kit, I think it would sell (pending price).

For those that want that kind of ride, you're better off ordering up a RCSB with a 5.0 and adding forced induction of your choice (who care about warranty anyway...right?). There are a few our there that are pretty darn quick.

 

If you look back at street truck history, Ford has always tested the waters before investing heavily in the market


Prior to Gen1 Lightning there was the Nite Edition truck
Prior to 1999 Gen2 Lightning was 1998 Nascar Special Edition
Then Tremor came out and flopped. Did we miss out on Gen3 Lightning?

The hot rod street truck market is pretty dead right now. I can't think of a single factory offering from anyone. Personally, I don't blame the manufacturers for not making them anymore. They almost always have been a sales flop and languish unsold on dealership lots. The factory off road trucks sell quickly and for near or above MSRP. Until that changes I don't see the Lightening ever coming back.

 

Is the NBS that much faster? I'm seeing posted numbers of high 13's at best for stock RCSB 5.0's '11-'14 years.

I haven't looked to far into it, so I could be easily missing something.

 

Total speculation....

The gen 2 lightning sold about 4000 a year. Then comes the Harley with similar engine but more seats and they sold over 10,000 a year. To me that suggest that a specialty truck with seating for 4 plus is the hot ticket
a performance or attitude vehicle that hauls the family open up so many more buyers options

 

GEN2 5.0 makes like 25hp more, and the truck is 500lbs lighter you do the math. It hauls the mail

 

Not disagreeing, just trying to find some data to back it up. They are certainly a rare config, lol.
