What I remember from that fiasco was that the actual ballot was set up so you weren't sure who you were voting for. You may have thought you were voting for Gore but nope, you just voted for Bush.

Either way, big oil used Jeb to buy the white house for dumb a$$ George. They didn't care what the voting public wanted. IIRC Al Gore won the popular vote but Bush still got the job. Ever since the 2K election, I've thought they should eliminate the electoral college and just use the popular vote.

The electoral college was instituted to protect the country from the ignorant, uneducated buffoons from electing the wrong person, and at that time 95% of the voting public were ignorant and uneducated. Well now we have come full circle, as they have used the electoral college to install an ignorant uneducated buffoon into the white house.

That's kind of insulting.

We 95 percenters prefer 'the great unwashed'.

I was talking about when this country was founded and they were drafting the constitution, not now. That was my point, the electoral college was needed 200 years ago, but now 95% of the voting public are smart enough to make informed decisions about there elected officials so the electoral college is not needed anymore.

I think that is a debatable point, (making informed decisions). If that were the case then how could ANYONE ever cast a vote for the Hildabeast or Bernie?????

The only reason the Bern is popular is because he's promising free stuff. Note that he has a large following among college age people - free college! How the hell is that going to be paid for? You could tax everyone 90% and it wouldn't cover it.

I think that free college for any major would be very fitting...........Then what the students get out of their PHD in coed underwater basket weaving would be worth exactly what they paid for it!

I would bet my money that at least 60% of today's population couldn't pass a basic civics test, college students included.

I think you should be tested and have to pass a comprehensive civics test before being allowed to vote.

X2 on that but that will never happen!

BTW did you see that Bernie sued (in Ohio IIRC) and some court has now ruled that some 17 Year Olds MUST be allowed to vote! I don't know what the suit was about but that's just bizarre to me!

The problem in the US isn't as much the age that people are allowed to vote at but more that so many people stay STUPID well beyond 18 or 21 or even 30 and they actually believe the ridiculous rhetoric and nonsense that Hillery and Bernie and the like are spewing and they vote in their own self-interests.

Critical thinking skills are sadly lacking in most of the American population!

They already are. That's why many former students will NEVER be able to pay off their college debts. To quote a phrase "they chose... poorly".

That suit was to allow 17 yo's who will be 18 by the November general election to vote in Tuesday's primary. The presiding judge ruled in Bernie's favor, and the republicans basically dropped the issue because there was not time for the appeals court to hear the case.
