Save yer nickels and dimes...they're back!
Don't know if you saw the Union announcement today but the Bronco and the Ranger are coming back. The reintro is due with the 2020 year model. It's suggested that the Bronco will not be a full size but more like a 4 Runner or Pathfinder size. The Ranger will be the Global Ranger that is due a redesign. That suggests a larger than previous Ranger, more inline with the Tacoma and maybe larger like a Colorado. Anyway, they're back!

So many things can happen in 3-4yrs :(
I told myself the Ranger is next after this F150. Im tired of these F150's being almost $60k to have any of the stuff I currently have on my 08. Just need something to haul my bike and get through the occassional snow. Smaller truck with all the goodies should be less than $40k I just hope they arent all crew cab short beds *lame* |
I'll be anxious to see what direction they are going to go with the Bronco -- my guess is that it will be far upscale from the versions many of us grew up with! For purists, it will probably be tagged a "BINO" -- Bronco In Name Only.....
With the Ranger we pretty much already have an idea of what it will be like -- some fusion of the Tacoma, Colorado, World Ranger, etc. Translated: it will have none of the simplistic charm of the old Ranger models, which is the attribute (straightforward simplicity) I have always found most endearing about that vehicle.....:( |

Of course the makers will deliver on it. Stripper models often languish on the lot unsold so dealers don't stock them. The cost to build a XL vs. Platinum is minimal compared to the total cost. But the MSRP is twice as much, guess which model the maker and dealer would rather sell... I'm of the opinion that if you really want a tough, basic off road rig you're much better off building it yourself. I'm helping my old man piece together a couple of old Scouts to ultimately take to Moab. What we'll put together will be much more capable than anything on a dealership lot and for less money. |
Good move by Ford. A lot of people miss the Ranger that really don't need a full size pickup. A smaller size Bronco would fit the need for a lot of people also.

This link says 2018 *IF* they can get the UAW to play nice...
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...nger/32373741/ A well optioned crew cab with the 2.7EB sounds good to me. |
I would like to see Ford use the Bronco to go after the Jeep Wrangler crowd.
I love our Jeep Wrangler but hate that it is made by Chrysler. It would be cool if the Bronco was a full on 4x4 with a removable roof and doors and old school looks. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Jeep Wrangler around here, it would be nice to see Ford take some of that market. |

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...6af234e3f8.jpg So glad I found this one. It had only 13,000 miles being a 2011 model. Bare bones XL trim. Love this thing. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. - Og |

I think that the original Bronco has been replaced by UTV's and there greater acceptance on rural and urban roads. |
I'm wondering if the Bronco will be a unibody design like everything else out there today? Ugh :(

The Bronco needs to be a rugged male oriented vehicle. The original Bronco was Jeep like. |
so why did thye quit making the ranger?
what has changed that would make them make it again? i think that in the 70's the little truck came into play because the japanese companies had only made the little trucks. lower prices better mpg sold them. also became popular as fleet vehicle . (before the mini van, vehicles like a transit, and 20 mpg f150's) now that we have aluminum bodys , powerful v-6 f150, what is the alure of the small truck? Price, I would guess it is $3k to $4k cheaper than a big truck, mpg maybe 1 to 4 mpg better. i just don't see those numbers as deal breakers. Just because gm is making the colorado and toyota will always make a small truck does not mean it is the right vehicle for ford. how hard would it be for ford to chop the back of an explorer and make a smaller truck? if size is an issue for buyers, i wonder how many single cab short bed trucks fords is selling? compared to 4 doors trucks , the single cab is much smaller and would be filling the gap for those wanting smaller truck , better mpg and lower price. I dont see many. |
Rather than compete in the fairly crowded mid-size truck market. I would personally rather see a "Ranchero-type" vehicle based off the Fusion. I would think development costs for Ford would be modest since the majority of the platform is already there, plus it would offer the advantage of being something different (more car-like with the associated comfort advantages) than just another "me too" mid-size small truck.
Of course, one reason I could see for Ford getting back in the small truck market would be to offer an entry-point for younger truck buyers. Have you see the prices on the new 2015's? I would venture a guess that the vast majority of "twentysomethings" can't even remotely afford a new F-150! Having a smaller truck at a lower price point would get these young customers into a Ford vehicle rather than letting them become loyal to GM, Toyota, or other based on their experience with their first Colorado, Tacoma, etc.....:coffee: |
cant really argue with you on cost other than to point out nissain,
you can get an entry level little Nissain truck for $18.190 , yet that dosent seem to be help sales of the big truck at all. I think there was a time when racing and entry level vehicle where parts of the sales. Ford full size truck are still strong and number one dispite having no little truck for entry level. I also think that buying used is much safer and acceptable than it was 20 years ago. If the bean counters and marketing people think they can turn a profit, they will make it. |
Ranger sales were dying I think. Plus, the F150s were getting better gas mileage than the V6 Rangers. The latest new "small" trucks are as large as the full size trucks a few decades ago. The Canyon/Colorado is a big hit. So, Ford will compete in that market. I used to think I wanted a small truck. So, I bought a new 81 Chevy LUV (Isuzu). What a POS. About 20 years ago, I was looking for a truck to drive to my contract jobs and test drove a new S10 extended cab. Rode like a log truck. So, I bought a used 94 F150SWB4x4. Loved it!
