Getting a F150 over to London, England

Well this is my first post and as you can guess from the title... I want to get my hands on my first F150 over here in rainy england!

There are some 90's and early 2000's models popping up in the small ads in the back of american import magazine. But they are all tired and in need of work, also no one seems to import the nice models over here....... They usualy take a low end stock model and put crap accsessories on them.

Or theres the other end of the scale where somone imports a stock raptor and then trys to sell them new for around £60,000 so about $92,000 !!!!!

I want a 2015 Lariat supercrew 4x4 V8 with the lariat sport pack.

Now my question is, are these usually in dealer inventory?

As I will book a flight at somepoint and come over for a Truck buying holiday!!

Any tips or pointers for buying a new one guys !!

Thanks for reading !!

Texas dealers seem to have some of the better deals. Contact a dealer in Houston, deal with the Internet salesman.

My only thought about this is that you'll be driving a BIG, left winger, in a crowded, often narrow street, right winger environment. Is this something you have experience with?

The other concerns are that maintenance is going to be very expensive, if you can even find someone competent to do it. From your post, I'm guessing the expense is not a factor, but have you got a competent mechanic?

One of our long-time UK members, Lenticular, has imported some American vehicles to Wales, and as I recall, he had some problems on the maintenance end.

Not only will maintenance be expensive, petrol ain't cheap on your side of the pond!

Probably would be a good idea to pack common (over here, at least) consumables like oil and air filters and bring them over with the truck.

Fuel is exspensive over here ! I would probably do a LPG conversion to help at the pumps...

I mean this isnt going to be a cheap thing for me to run ...but its more of a passion rather than "is it exspensive"

I have driven left winger dodge 3500 dual axel over here and it wasnt so bad london and the surrounding towns arent so bad to drive through. I do alot of freeway miles and I used to go out in the semi's in my last job! So if those guys can get semi's round our streets im sure I can handle my F150!

As for servicing i can do that myself but i will keep in mind about spare parts ! As its worth buying a few things to take home with me and if things go wrong, like electrical or more there is a american ford specialist about 10miles from me and i know he has the latest diagnostic software....

All in it will still be cheaper to buy and run than a Range rover ..which would be the nearest thing to compare a truck to i.e the size and engine power etc.

The problem with buying brand new is that they will require PCM updates and warranty work.

How do you plan to do those?

Well The warranty is pretty much void when its exported, I do have a
American ford specialist not so far from me who can do software updates.

That would be really awesome to have over there! Best of luck to you with it all and would love an update once it's all said and done.

Can your specialist get stuff direct from Ford and does he have the latest computer rig? That's the only way to do software/firmware updates.

I dunno if the UK has a displacement-based tax on vehicles, but if they do, might want to look at the 2.7 Ecoboost.

He does have all the latest software and he has some great contacts for parts!!

Yes unfortunately we do have a engine
Size/discplacement tax its based on Co2 emmisions and vehicle age and you have to pay it every 12 months.

I.e the older and larger the engine in the car the more you pay unless your car is 30years or older and then it would be classed as a classic car, which is free to tax .

Also fuel type is very different on the rate of tax ! I.e gasoline is way more exspensive to tax than diesel fuelled cars!

In diesel cars the tax could be anywhere from around $45 for a standard 4 cylinder 2.0L engine or smaller
and $450 for something like a 4.5L diesel V8 range rover at maximum tax level.

In gasoline cars, usually small 4 cylinder engines under 1.2L and hybrids are free to tax.....
BUT

Gasoline cars with 1.6L 4 cylinder engines up too 2.0L engines are around $215

Gasoline cars from 2.5L to 3.0L 4 or 6 cylinder engines can very beetween $285-$650 and anything over that like gas V8 or big V6 engines which is the maximum tax level can be $900-$1700!!!

And it has to be paid each year by law!! Or the police can have your car crushed!
