Dropped 63 cu. in. and some weight, gained power and MPG
Hello all!
It's been quite some time since I posted anything here. It seems like there is never enough time in the day!
I started a thread a while ago about my experience with a 2011, 3.7 F150.
I was hoping to give anyone interested in that configuration some real world opinions.
Well, after seven plus years, I was bitten by the new truck bug again and traded the 2011 in on a 2018.
The new truck is an XL. Plain Jane, though it has a lot more features than the 2011.
The thing that I am most impressed with so far is that 2.7/10 speed combo.
After driving this 2018, I realize just how underpowered the 2011 was.
I haven't got 1k on it yet, so things are subject to change, but so far, it's been quite nice to have some power, and better MPG.
I'm late to the game here so I'm not going to try to tell people things they already know.
I know a lot of people have been enjoying (or not) this engine for years now, I'm just adding my two cents. In addition to the new F150, back in the beginning of 2017 I added this 2014 Transit Connect to the fleet.
It's my rolling tool box.

congrats, i would think that in that configuration the 2.7 runs really good.
as for the options, this is what people simply don't understand. Affordable trucks can still be had and they have lots of features. They are also a lot safer than stuff made 10 or 20 years ago. I remember when tires always wore out and my truck always need a brake job and alignments. Now days those are both about an every 60k mile thing.
comparing the interior of my then loaded lightning (2004) to a current xl, the lightning has nicers seats, that about all the interior advantage is.

You've got to wonder if there will be a short box, regular cab available in the future. It seems like most people opt for the larger configurations. I will say though, that there were many of these short box, regular cab trucks with the 2.7 to choose from around here.

To me, “bells and whistles” are nothing more than $1500.00 repairs waiting to happen seven years down the road! I think the thing I love most about the Rangers I’ve owned is their simplicity - no touchscreen, Bluetooth, interconnected, uneccesarily complicated BS to create headaches over the course of ownership! Give me a base XL truck over a Platinum any day of the week.....

For the longest time I bought the absolute best truck they made with all the bells and whistles. The last truck is an STX and I couldn't be happier. I'm not a fan of the center console that runs up to the dash. It's in the way for me. I'm not a fan of all of the glitz in the upper grade models. The wife has a Titanium Escape with everything they put on one. I can't stand to drive it for all the BS going on while driving it. The side scan BS and the lights on the mirrors are just too much while going down the road. My personal self, I find the STX Sport package to a much better looking truck than any of the others. Add carpet and a few goodies and you have everything I want in one. Only problem I have is my bud who is my dealer doesn't get in many in white, my color of choice, and the 3.5EB or the 5.0. All of his are either the 3.3 or the 2.7, neither of which I'll have.
