Its official, I'm moving to Houston!

Well, the Army is no more and I have great friends in the Houston area. Looking forward to packing up the fam and seeing what the area has to offer!

Good luck with the change!

Ah, Houston! I recall the smell in the air there well. I guess, after a while, you don't notice it any more.

That's just around Pasadena.

It actually wasn't too bad, I just remember it whenever we descended into Houston for landing back in my Air Force days.

The place that really STUNK at times was Tuscaloosa, AL. I lived there in the late 50s and there was a paper mill there then. When the wind blew in a certain direction... ew!

My ex MIL lived in Kingwood. The water there had a smell to it that made you want to puke. I had spent a week over there painting her house and she washed my clothes. I had to throw them away as the smell wouldn't come out. Just thinking about it makes me sick. Houston has to be the last place in Texas I would ever live. A tent in West Texas on the side of the road would be better.

Hahaha, many varied opinions! It's a great growing economy with a great cost of living. A big reason I'm going!

Yeah . . . I wouldn't be too worried about a "smell," especially because you'd likely be in a suburb, like I grew up in. It does smell bad if you're near the gulf with all the heavy industrial stuff.

Kick-butt economy all across the state, I think you'll like it!

Hey Welcome to Houston , its not as it used to be back in the fifties. Even Pasadena has changed. Good luck.

From a career standpoint, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better area to move to than Houston, but from a quality-of-life standpoint, maybe not so much. I always wished I would have been relocated to San Antonio or the DFW area when I was originally sent down to Texas, but such is life. Both my wife and I have too many friends and are too established here career-wise to move at this stage of our lives, but come retirement I could see us heading to another, more livable, part of the state. Anyway, good luck with the new stage of your life.....
