VW Problems....

2001 Jetta.. 145,000 2.0 4cyl
I know its a Ford Forum.. but I need the VW as my Daily driver.. If the F150 got better mpg I would drive it all day everyday.

Anyway.. Today leaving my house for work about 1 mile from my house the Jetta started loosing some power. It was almost like it was missing. I was punching the gas but it wasnt going near like it should. The check engine light began to flash then stayed on constantly.. after about .5 miles of this the car turned off completely. The battery light also came on, but this could be because the car turned off and the key was left in that position.

I recently about 3 weeks ago had the timing belt replaced, but it seemed to be running fine.

Tried to restart the car, but it wouldnt start. It will crank, but not turn over.

What should I start with checking when I get home.. Not sure I know where my code reader is anymore.

I'm not sure which 2.0 you have as there are several but the coil packs are a known issue. This could cause the misfire. Also most of these had electronic throttles. Verify its correct operation.

Go to the vwvortex.com and search through the MkIV forums for more solutions. Bring some thick skin because there is a ton of idiots but there are some that really know what they're talking about.

My '73 Super Beetle was and still is one of the best, cheapest ride I've ever owned in my whole live long life.
3,200$ out the door, 30 mpg and the fastest it would travel over Loveland Pass in CO was 35 mph IN THIRD GEAR!! ( and it was a 4speed).
Drove it out to Yosemite, camped for 1 month, left with $250 for the trip and returned with $35 to spare.
Sold it for $2,000$ in 1978 with 95,000 miles on it so I could buy my first Ford product and then wished I had kept it and never bought the E-150.
I did go thru a couple of clutch cables and replaced the clutch one time but other than that it was a great ride and cheap to operate.
