Question propane conversion?

I had an f150 pass me on the road yesterday. I believe it was a V8, 4X2 long box but it had been converted to propane. Would you get better gas mileage, decreased HP?
I would not do this to my truck...how about you?

I have a 79 chevy 4X4 pickup that runs on propane. It's now my hunting/hauling truck. I've never had a problem with it. They say you lose a little power/milage, but it's supposed to burn cleaner. Propane now costs about 90 cents a gallon bulk, but was around 50 cents last summer (and previous years). It also has a 60 gallon tank on back, I could go 600+ miles between fills.

I bought the truck with the conversion already on it many years ago (1985). I would probably not convert a new truck, but wouldn't be scared to buy one of those natural gas trucks (for a similar price).
