My laptop won't connect to the internet

My ASUS 900HA won't connect to the internet... Little background, yesterday it picked up the ever so fun XP Home Security 2012 bug. Got that taken care of, did the virus and malware scans and everything comes up clean. But, now it won't connect to the internet, whether it is wireless or wired. And I've tried connecting through different networks. Any ideas? I've gone through and reset all network options to default.

Did you try releasing and refreshing the IP address? Our home computers get stupid after a while and it usually get's things running again.

When you go to release the IP address, I get "Ip address has already been released". When I go to renew, 'An error occured while renewing. RPC server is unavailable. Under the Admin tools and services, is shows the RPC as started and automatic. The RPC locator is set to manual, and has not started though.

Are you sure what every you are using to DHCP IP addresses from is working ?

i.e. a 3rd computer that you can try the same release / renew on.
