Uti???

My son wants to take the diesel course at UTI. Anyone have any experience, thoughts, inputs, anything on UTI or the course??? I have never heard anything bad about them and they boast a 70-some % employment rate for the diesel program.

I don't personally have any experience with them but have a few friends that have gone to UTI and are doing very well for themselves.

Best of luck to him!

I was looking at their courses last week online. I know some of the kids I graduated with went there and like it. I think it's supposed to be a good school

I was in an AutoBody class my senior year of HS and a rep from UTI came by and talked to us for a day. From what he showed us, that place was awesome for anyone looking to get into automotive work. But then again, salesmen can paint any type of picture they want...

I'm going to Wyotech right now for auto. There is a huge diesel program here in Wyoming and I know its not UTI but these type of schools get the best of the best as far as instructors go. All my instructors for Auto have tons of experience as far as in the field work. I don't know about how UTI operates as far as a school but here at Wyotech they will do everything possible to make sure you get a job when you graduate. I would tell him to go for it.

Hopefully UTI locations are better than Laramie Wyoming

i have heard it is very expensive.

i also heard that it is one of those things where you get a loan for the full amount of an education and you pay for it rather you finish or drop out after a week. this may not be right but i had a few guys tell me this.

DO NOT GO TO UTI.

85% of the people i worked with as an inspector were at UTI or graduated from UTI and none could get a job.

know a kid that went to wyotech and goes thru jobs like no other, but he still gets paid terribly (~9.50/hr). now this kid isn't the kind of person i'd let touch my vehicles but some how he did well up there and doesn't have problems getting a job.

I went to another notable "specialty" school like this, and let me be the first to tell you that there isn't enough money in any kind of mechanic work to warrant spending the ridiculous amount of money ALL of these schools cost. Also, once you get a job and you're dealing with paying your school loans back, don't forget you have a massive tool bill you need to pay on top of that. And no, Harbour Freight tools don't cut it in the professional world. In summary, skip the school and find someplace to work your way up through the ranks, or join the military and work in the motor pool for experience.

There are plenty of kids in my class at Wyotech that I wouldn't let touch my truck. If you serious about getting into the automotive or Diesel industry then going to a school like this will benefit. Ya they want a lot of money for how long your in school but getting an education that will lead to a career in a regular university will cost more than what these schools are wanting for tuition. I don't know how good of a school UTI is but I would say look at Wyotech also if your son wants to get into the Diesel industry.
