Pc Help Please

I have just been trying to fix my wife's acer laptop as its got some kind of problem that may be viral. She has been using the free version of AVG but wanted to delete it and use Avast. Have not been able to find any way of deleting the avg and it keeps on 'flashing' on the screen that it has virus's. 2 that I recall are "worm zhelatin & spyware banker 10". I managed to do a system restore but it has made no differance. She also has Avast (free version) on it which has been run both full & short scans, neither of which picked up any problems at all!! I am also unable to connect to the internet (wirelessly). She has Windows 7 ultimate on it. Any ideas?

Start the task manager by using the Ctrl/Alt/Delete buttons. Under the processes tab, look for anything with the name like win32.worm.zhelatin. Click on it one time to highlight it, at the bottom of the page click on end process. You have now turned it off only, it's still on the computer. Get on the net and download Malewarebytes, update it, and then run it. It should get rid of both.
If the task manager does not come up, click on Start, in the Search box at the bottom, type in msconfig. You'll get a box with tabs. Click on the startup tab. Remove the worm from the startup menu. Then get online and follow the above with Malewarebytes.

Also get rid of AVG and forget about Avast, download Microsoft security essentials, set it up and let it run. Run malwarebytes about every other week or once a month to catch anything falling through the cracks and call it good.

Restart and boot into safe mode with networking, download the 2 programs and install them. Run full scans of each removing anything detected, when they are done restart windows normally and run them again. Then uninstall AVG from the programs section in control panel.

Yea, good luck getting rid of that, it's a PITA. I had to use "Revo Uninstaller".

Avira is the best free one out there IMO. I use it on everything except for the Mac. And it doesn't bug you lol.

I've had Avira on two machines since 05. Tried others , always went back to Avira.

birddog has good suggestions as well. I had problems getting rid of that on a machine running W7.

EDIT, btw - What wouldn't go away was a AVG 9 file if I recall. From a previous update maybe. Do you keep seeing this file in programs on C ?

Figured I'd post that, maybe it will help others to help you more. Yea , that 9 file would run after an uninstall of 10 and you couldn't get rid of the damn thing. "Revo" finally found it.

Maybe I shouldn't have interupted, my fault.

Then you good right ? Nothing poping up ?

Leave you comp on, disconnect power from your internet box and router if you have one. Then reconnect. Have you tried that yet ?

Grab a flash drive and go download the 2 programs on another computer. Transfer the .exe file onto the flash and install them on the bad pc. Run the programs and let them clean the system, then restart and try to connect to the net to get the updates and run them again.
