Dodge claims 392(6.4) Challenger runs 12.4!
|
That e.t. sounds about right for the horsepower and weight of that car.
|
Did they do any weight reduction with the 392? I recall one of the Challengers problems was it was alot heavier than the Mustang. I don't recall what the 2012 Mustang BOSS 302 runs in the quarter off the top of my head. I love these muscle car wars though!
|
the challengers look cool but are really really heavy
|
The article says they're still heavy at 4200pds, but it wont be too much longer before the CAFE standards kill most of these muscle cars. Get them new while you can because the performance cars of the future are either going to be some sort of hybrid or electric car.
|
Yeah like 4200lbs+ so its gonna drive like a big car not nimble like the mustang. Thats gotta be underated some, gain a whole second from a 45hp 50lbft increase! That doesn't seem right to me at all. Its teh srt8, so that comparable to the gt500 which it looks like they're running similiar times with supposedly 80 less hp. Of course i imagine the gt500 isn't that easy to launch.
|
And yeah by 2025 they want cars to be able to get 60mpg. The only way thats possible is if the cut us down to 2cyl hybrid junk. Say goodbye to trucks, this country can't do without trucks!!!
|
Don't be suprised if down the not to distant future a Mustang GT has a Ecoboost V6 in it instead of a V8. Will make alot of old school guys up in arms but if you can get the same performance and much better MPG do it. They probably will offer a V8 as an option though. Just my guess...
|
And dear God, please let that Boss outrun a 12.4!!! hahahahahaa

12.4 with a professional driver on a good weather day with a perfect track sounds reasonable to me.
Of course, that equates to about a 13.9 with an average driver on an average track and less than perfect weather, lol. |

I would like to hear one of the V6 ecoboost run the 1/4 with a good exhaust system. The 6 cylinders have just never sounded good to me.

I agree it's a little underrated. My stock Lightning is underrated (based on dynos) and at 4670 pds. runs the 1/4 in 13.65. The Challenger probably has more like 500 HP. Either way, a 12.4 is doable in that car.

Yea my bro said on some forum he was on that there was a guy claiming to kno the actual hp somehow. Can't remember why/how he knew or any other details but he said it actually was making 508hp.
It would be an embarrassment to Dodge if it can't run what they claim is the reason I posted all of that. lol. |

That was what I figured. Ford's official numbers for the '01 Lightnings was 13.9 @100 mph. The first time I took mine to the track (also the first time I ever ran down a 1/4 mile track) it ran 13.91 @100.23 with about 15 feet of wheel spin (cold track.) Everyone that I know of ran from 13.45-13.7 stock with no mods. Some even ran a little quicker than that.

It ought to run those times or better for the price. My 2011 GT 5.0 will run 12.8-12.9 and cost $14K less. For $48K, you can also get a GT 500 that will be 12.4 stock and will get into the 11's very easily.

I didn't kno lightnings could move quite that fast stock, thats a big truck! I'm just amazed they picked up a whole second. Can't wait to see it.

They definately don't come with cheap tires. But they are street tires and won't hook anything like a DOT approved drag radial will.

The SRT8 is $42, but these 392s are higher. $48K is what I've seen. And if you are over 6 foot tall, the Mustang is likely not for you. There is a reason race car drivers (most) aren't 6 foot+!

That will be sweet!!! Do it!! hehe
Makes me wonder, talking about FI, with these motors Ford 5.0 and dodge 6.4 running such high compression there not going to be as FI friendly right? 6.4=10.9:1 5.0=11:1 |
Yes and no.
You'll have great power off boost but need to run less overall boost unless you are on race gas. E85 would be the answer for the street on these new engines. |
Ahh i see. Don't kno what to think about that really. I've always figured that the best way to get power out off these ford modular motor is FI, but it seems like it kinda takes that away a little with compression that high.
