Online seller's etiquette... Am I wrong?

So I bought a set of rims from another truck site last monday (7/19). Now, I wouldn't expect the seller to ship the wheels the next day, just as soon as you can. Plus, he had to remove two tires before he shipped. So, that's fine. My problem is that he has the money (paypal), but I'm worried that he hasn't sent me a tracking number even though he says he has one but just keeps forgetting to send it (I've asked for it like 3-4 times). Kinda afraid that I've been scammed.

Am I being too paranoid? When I sell stuff online, I make sure to tell the buyer that I've shipped it and I even try to give a tracking number. Thoughts?

this is the best thing you could have done. check on paypals site for remedies for delays like this. i do believe they have some sort of timeline before you can file a complaint with them. i had this issue a while back with a seller and when i got paypal involved he became my best friend. under your my account tab click on the resolution center tab. follow instructions there.

Yes, you can file a complaint with PayPal against the seller. That's your absolute best bet.

Yea, don't wait - do it now, if you haven't already. You'll should either get your money back or force the thumb out of his ass. I wouldn't trust a seller like that, - what's his feedback or history like? - Iduno, - tell him to go blow, get your money.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I kinda was going to give him till wednesday of next week just to make sure he didn't send it. Plus, I followed your link and it says to wait 45 days. but it is fishy. He doesn't have any feedback, but he has been a member on NLOC for a while. I'm just mad he hasn't sent me any updates or anything. so frustrating

I would say his unwillingness to provide a tracking number is fishy and would make me uncomfortable as well -- that should take him all of about 15 seconds to email you, and the fact that he hasn't (after several requests) is bad form, at best.

Good luck.....:beers:

What shipping service is he using ? He might not have a tracking number, if he went USPS they might of just gave him a claim number. Not the same unfortunately. UPS & FedEx always give you a number you can track on-line.

stuff does come up, but I agree a week is long enough to get something shipped off and a tracking number provided

PayPal rocks!

2low2slow Aug 1, 2010 01:14 PM

yeah, not sure what shipping service he used. that would kinda make sense if he used USPS to ship and didn't have a number.

Oh well, looks like I'm waiting till it's been 45 days anyways. Kinda nice knowing that paypal has my back in case he really did scam me. I'll post an update if anything changes.

Yeah he probably used usps parcel post which is the cheapest and has the longest delivery time. I think parcel post can take up to 14 days.

Ok, but why then wouldn't he just respond to the emails saying, "sent 'em USPS they don't have tracking numbers."??

That's a good question!

FWIW, I've sent many parcels through the USPS. Never anything as large as a set of wheels, though. Not sure if they even handle stuff that big.

On smaller packages, you absolutely can get a tracking number through USPS and check status online. But it costs like $0.50 - $1.00 extra.
