Well I'm back, and truckless

Hey everyone,

It's been a busy 2 weeks, between school, new job, and the truck being totaled, I haven't had much time to frequent the site.

Truck was involved in an accident 2 weeks ago, ended up with a messed up bumper, damaged all along the passenger side, and a bent frame. Everyone walked away without a scratch. It's a weird situation so as of right now that's all I'm going to say about it. I know I'll get flamed for not having pics, but I'll try to get pics eventually

After insurance worked everything out, I ended up with my loan paid off and around $5k for a new vehicle. I weighed my options, and I'm just going to buy a truck for $5k and wait till after I finish school to take out another loan. I'm liking the idea of no truck payments more and more each day.

After an exhausting seach of the surrounding area (MD, PA, DE, VA, DC) I found a 92 F250, 5spd, 4x4, 351w, with 108000, for around 5k. The truck is in pretty good condition, and it drives like a dream. I test drove broncos, rangers, older mustang GTs, and a couple chevy's (i've been trying to keep it in the ford family) and the F250 was the winner. There's a little rust on the frame, and it needs a new exhaust. But it is MD and PA inspected, both of which are pretty thorough. If I can get the truck for 4.5k OTD, I'll probably jump on it, I've had a lot of trouble finding a 4x4 truck that I really like, and this one really fits the bill. If you scroll down on the website it's the black 1992 F250 http://www.weshartsauto.com/specials.html

So my question is, anything I should be looking out for when I go to do a final check on this truck? Known problems, issues, or quirks that I should be aware of?

Thanks for the help! :beers:

id try and find a 97-03 f150 4x4 for around 7-8k to get into something a little more modern and 2-3k wont take long to pay off.

That's a lot of money for an 18 year old truck. I just found a 98 F-150 Scab 4x4 with a 4.6, offroad package, and 158k for $6500 for my son in law, clean and nothing wrong with it. One owner.

My 02 f150 was just totaled and I only recieved 6k for it and it was in AMAZING conditon, you can find a newer F150 97 - 03 for 4 to 5k easily. OR the older body style in the 90s with the 7.3 desil thats where my vote is! If that 250 in baltimore was a powerstroke id buy it lol

Glad to hear everyone was ok, sucks to hear you lost the 150 though.

Well I test drove the truck today, engine is strong, clutch feels good, only problem is the steering is a little loose. I'm in the negotiation stage, hopefully I can figure something out soon. I've continued my search through the local newspapers, but the main problem I'm running in to is finding one with 4x4 and around 100k. Hopefully I'll have this nailed down soon, thanks for the help guys

That stinks man... I agree tho, that's a bit pricey

GreenBuck50 Oct 16, 2009 04:26 AM

I have spent time looking for trucks for people and I think it is a good truck for the price and mileage along with your situation. Have the steering checked out by a mechanic or do it yourself if you are capable and/or tell them 3500 to compensate for the steering problems or 4000 max is your offer.

Man, sorry to hear that your truck go totaled, but glad to hear everyone walked away unharmed. Not a bad looking F250 and at least they are listening to 98Rock (97.9) in the truck! :rocker:

Well I called the guy again and he won't budge off of 4700. I'm running out of trucks to look at so I've moved on to Jeeps and Broncos. Going to look at an 86 CJ7 4.2 v6 61k miles ($5K) and an 82 Chevy with the 6.2L diesel 4x4 with 48k miles ($2K).Still waiting on a few emails back from people about a couple broncos.

sucks to hear about your truck man. hopefully you find a good fit for you.

Check the wheel wells for body filler, check the door jams right when you open the door, check the rocker panels. Open the doors, check the bottom seam of the door for rust. Open the tailgate check the tailgate seam for rust. The slack in the steering is probably from the gear box. On 351s check the rear main seal for oil leaks, check the lower intake gasket for coolant leaks.

There's TONS of info on fullsizebronco.com for the old body style ford trucks. Make sure you search, or they will murder you. It's hard to find a clean f250/350 4x4 that isn't an work truck. So you might have to resort to paying $4700.

Sorry to hear about the truck but like you said, no more truck payment. I guess that's the bright side.

That CJ doesn't sound like a bad deal. Any info on it?
