Don't worry... it's all "Highway Miles"... opinons?

Holy crap its been a long time since I was here - but as usual I trust the opinions of my GD friends above all... that's why I'm back.

Im thinking of buying a high miles 08 Expedition Max (250k miles).

It's "highway miles".

What is your opinion of highway miles - does it really matter or is a high miles vehicle ok as long as it's "highway miles"?

Thanks!

Highway miles are ALOT better than stop and go miles. It really depends how it has been maintained. If its had 5k oil changes, transmission fluid changes, rearend fluid changes, coolant etc and they can prove it then i bet chances are it will be good to go.

Only thing i would shy away from is the good ol 5.4 3 valve cam phaser problem with that high of miles.

5.4 3 valve VCT issues are all over the forum. Look through the V-8 and 04-08 forums.

Price needs to reflect it, but a truck with 250-300k miles usually can be bought for a really good deal. Company I worked for has 3v 5.4s with 200-240k with no problems. usually drivers seat wears out before the engine and trans wore out.

That wouldn't phase me at all if I needed a reliable, lower-priced truck -- especially if you know the maintenance history.

The only issue I know of on the 2V motors was with the spark plugs and the lack of threads, otherwise they are bulletproof.

Plugs were changed and no threading problems, went thru the truck when I bought it,trans-axle,rear end, trans.fluid, fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, fuel injection system cleaned, radiator flush and fill, brakes were at 75% all around. This truck hopefully will last me awhile. Jim

I used to work at a car lot and I can tell you that every used car that was sold was "highway miles" and yes they are better miles than city. Unless you can prove 100% they are highway miles assume they are not.
