auto & cycle trader print edition is dead

Just got the word from autotrader. The other day I went to the local gas station and the whole display was pulled, so I sent an e-mail to them and they confirmed that they're no longer printing local editions of auto trader & cycle trader.

I'm as internet savvy as the next guy, but I really enjoyed (especially when I was broke) spending a buck just to leaf through all the cars in the area. I know I can't bust out everything withing 100 miles for $1.50 on my local printer every week.

Cheers to the former mag. for all the cars and trucks I've laughed my *** off at and lusted after, and just a general good time for a low entry price.

should bring the listing price down now.. so they may get more people to sell with them.... or less since all the old guys read the paper and not the internet...

we'll see how this decision works for them

I noticed the AutoTrader missing from our gas stations about 3 months ago...I just thought everyone was buying them before I could get one! HA! That sucks. I like the paper option better than the interweb.

Looks like they're killing all the national classic car ones too.

"Join us online! This will be our final printed magazine"

From AutoTrader Classics Classic Cars & Parts, but it looked like all of the other ones had it to.

Must have been a hasty decision, as there's still a subscription card in there.

Back in the day they were pretty interesting reads because there were a lot of private sellers listing their cars in these types of rags. Over the years, they pretty much became advertising forums for every "used car lot on the bad side of town" and because of that became fairly tedious to look at.

Sign of the times.

FWIW, Cycle News also used to be a great weekly paper for motorcyle ads, in addition to lots of race coverage and other features. They went online only about 6 months ago.

I know. It was just nice not to have a "data plan" and not stare at a screen for a while. I got the newspaper every day until it became so hollowed out it was a shadow of its former self. I saw a couple of days ago that Truckin' is about a 1/3 of the thickness it once was.
