Tree's moved
 

Need Help. I moved two Japanese red Maples. One split leaf. I broke a good size limb off the split leaf. I poured a bag of black gold in each hole. The other one is doing great but the split leaf is dying. Help me out? It's been watered daily. Can I save it?

FYI, very HOT and HUMID here.

go to another main branch and scrape off a little bit of the bark. if everything is still moist and green underneath then everything is good. some trees respond to transplants differently. might just have to give it time.

Very difficult time to move a tree. Best in the dormant stage, Oct-Dec. Sometimes, they will go into shock and recover next Spring, but too ften, the heat is just too much.

I appreciate the info. I will scrape the bark off and look. I had to move them in a hurry and couldn't wait for the fall. It was just weird to me cuz one of the trees is doing great while the other is failing and they are like 20' from each other (same sunlight/shade)

Good luck. I hope the damage is not too severe.

Maybe the split leaf tree is from a strain that evolved in a cooler part of Japan than they other tree, so it is less heat tolerant. Breaking a big branch off during summer instead of dormant season is probably a big factor, too.

Make sure you are not over-watering.

Avoid over stimulating the tree with fertilizers, etc...

Any way to protect the injured tree from extreme heat and too much direct sun until it stabilizes?
