What's in your toolbox?
 

I just bought a new toolbox and a new set of Craftsman sockets (195pc for 99.99 sale price). I just wondered what brand ('s) of tools everyone uses? Also, name the most used item ('s) in your toolbox (duct tape doesn't count).

I use Craftsman, Thorsen, and Popular Mechanics tools. Most used items are needle nosed pliers, BFH, and vise grips

All my tools are Craftsman. Most used tool is the oil filter wrench for the Ranger.

My Craftsman upright tool chest is full of Craftsman tools.

-Socket wrench & Sockets
-Screwdrivers
-Box end - open end wrenches
-18 VOLT VARIABLE SPEED CORDLESS DRILL (what did we do without them????)

I think Snap-On tools are some of the finest....but why pay the price?? Anything I have EVER had I thought wasn't right Sears replaced it....no questions asked.

Snap-On is all i use my dad has a contract with them and theyre free so i use them!

Good post KYFordFreak! I HAD a nice set of Craftsman tools & boxes - ratchets, screwdrivers, combination wrenches. vise grips (3 sizes), pliers, Allen wrenches - you name it! Bought it over time & I was very proud of it! Well, my EX fiance decided 1 day when he was angry & drunk (dangerous combo!) that they were JUNK - took the open tool boxes - there were 2 & threw them in a field of 6' high weeds! All I ever found was a few sockets & 1 vise grip & the rest are now under blacktop! Wonder if the warranty still applies!?
I had "custom" wrench covers too! I got a bunch of the plastic sleeves that birth control pills come in - I got them from work where they were tossed out & I slipped them over the ends of the wrenches! They fit great - all but the largest wrench was able to be covered. Kept them clean & from scratching the LINED drawers in the toolboxes! Should have seen the looks on the guys faces though when they went to get a wrench & asked about the covers with the flowers on them! As soon as I told them what they were, they dropped them like it was poison! LOL! I took pride in the Craftsmen tools I HAD & the toolboxes were immaculate! Can you tell that is STILL bothers me nearly 10 years later! Arrrggghhh! BTW - 1 of the most often used items wasn't a tool at all! I kept a bottle of red nail polish in the tool box & used it to mark stuff like the bracket when I replaced the alternator or even my timing mark! How's THAT for feminne ingenuity! While at Sears, I spotted the GearWrench sets of combination wrenches. I now have both SAE and metric sets. These things are fabulous...the box end ratchets and works like a charm. I still have my Craftsman stuff but I will be using the GearWrench a lot. And who knows, since Sears sells them, maybe Sears will even honor the lifetime guarantee the GearWrench claims it has?

I saw those gear wrenches last time I was at Sears, but JEEZ $60 for 5 wrenchs!!!!!! Little too pricy for me, especially since the ones I say didn't say lifetime warantee.

In my Homak box I have mostly Craftsman, True Craft, Snap-on, and a few Mac tools. If I could I would have all Mac or Snap-on but I don't have that much money.

ROFLMA @ Cowlady, that would piss me off too. Somebody throwing tools out like that. I think I might drop those contraceptive tools, too. What's wrong CL did you think the tools might "mate"?

I saw those gear wrenches the same time I was buying my new set, but like PS73 said they are a little pricey. Only bought the new set to work on my old Shovey S10, jk. You can never have too many tools. I only have Thorsen tools becuase I get a 20% discount from work on them and they do have lifetime warr, that works just like Sears, no questions asked at least not at the Advance I work at. I forgot about Mac and Husky tools. Anybody have the Metwrench tools? How well do they work?

I also have the Metwrench set...it works pretty good, especially if you have to switch back and forth between SAE and metric. I'd say the Metwrench set takes care of 95% of my needs. I other words, if I could take only one set of tools on a trip, it would definitely be the Metwrench set. The quality is excellent and the warranty is good, too. I'm a tool kinda guy and if I could afford it I would buy whole sets Craftsman, Mac, Snap-On, etc., but I like the Metwrench tools, too.

Jimmy Lee, I HATE you! LOL. Once you use Snap-on tools, you can't stand any others.

As for brands of tools, I have several, but they're mostly Craftsman (cheap), Snap-on (eye bulging, but can't avoid them in certain situations where clearance is a problem), and Proto (good warranty too).

What do I use most? Without a doubt, screwdrivers.

As for tools I carry in the truck? I carry a cellphone and four numbers. Ford's Roadside Assistance, Mr. Rescue (Verizon's version of the AAA club that works in any vehicle even if it's not mine), my friend's tow company's number, and the number of my other friend who's a mechanic.

Mac tools, in a Mac tool box...

You can have the Strap On, and their break-it-off-in-you prices. My Mac man is there every week, working with me, helping me out, and selling me the tools I use every day . He doesn't gouge me, and his tools feel just as good (even better) than the other truck's.
Strap On has been told that if he ever steps a foot in my shop again, he can have a choice-my foot up his a$$ or I can call the cops and have him arrested for tresspassing.

For those of you who swear by Craftsman, you need to realize that for about 5% more you can have Mac, and they are 10 times the tool...
Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but it DOES make a difference if you are in the biz...

they aren't as heavy duty as Channel lock pliers, but they can be very handy at times...
