had to be the time i decided the river we had to go through while off-roading wasnt as deep as it looked. turns out it WAS as deep as it looked, and had water over my hood. momentum and 4x4 kept me going, and she pulled out just fine. no problems, noises or anything like that, just gave me a little scare when the water was up against my window!!! im surprised the current didnt take me with it!!

gunned it on a straight clean road at 5mph
downshifted and lighted up the tires fushtailed and smacked a pole had 3 girls in the truck with me so i was showin off lol |
One time, I thought it would be fun to slide through an intersection and turn some heads. Well... I ended up in the curb and messed up the right suspention. $1600 later, I was back to the way I started. That really sucked!

Probably had to be the time I attempted to hook up my buddies jet ski trailer(w/2 jet skis) by myself on a sloping ground.Put a nice dent in the tailgate. What made feel even worse is that my ball(on the hitch)wasn't even the right size.350 bucks to fix- guess the new owner of my 98 will have to live w/it or fix it.

Ok, I posted this as soon as I did it, and luckily, it was fixed when Ford repainted my roof under warranty, but here it goes...
When the orbital buffer wheel fell off, and the bolt was still spinning...see where this is going? It made quite an "impression" on my roof. All fixed now though. Stupid cheap-a$$ Craftsman orbital. I love their other tools, but that buffer needs to die!!! ------------------ --Lariat4WD-- http://www.bmgsite.com/images/austin_powers.jpg 2000 Ford F-150 Extended Cab Flareside 4x4 Lariat 5.4L;auto;3.55LS;Black/Charcoal;ORP;remote keyless;floor-shift 4wd;Class III;AM/FM/SingleCD Mods so far: Lund X-Terminator bug shield; Vent Shade Vent Visors; Westin Black step bars; Pendaliner bedliner; GSP black Safari Grille Guard; Clear corner lenses; under hitch backup lights; 2 KC Hilites Daylighter 6" 150W black round; Cranked torsion bars; 2 Polk Audio EX10 10" subs under rear seat; Sony XM754HX amp; Viper 300ESP alarm; NR Auto white/black gauges; changed silver 2-tone to dark charcoal, warranty paint work on bed sides and roof; removed all Lariat striping...for now. A delivery truck (tractor trailer) got stuck because it didn't have posi and the left side was in the mud (went off the edge of a driveway) anyways, I hooked my recovery strap from my tow hook to the trailer to help yank him out. I told him to put it in neutral and just let me pull so he wouldn't roll into me. That proved ineffective so I had him put on a little gas. Well I got him out and he was rolling toward me with room between the back of my truck and a parked car running out fast! His passenger told him to hit the brakes and when he did my truck got quite a jerk. The ABS light turned on and I think the rear wheels may have even left the ground! I restarted the truck and everything has been fine. Happened about 7,000 miles ago. Driver threw me $50 and told me he was gonna trade his Chevy for a real truck!

MisterP,
That would fall along my stupidest thing I've done to my Truck. I went to a party at 3:00a.m. in the morning in Lumberton, Tx. Pulled in driveway and parked in grass next to driveway. When I left(completely sobor) I backed straight out, but got stuck in a 6" deep ditch. Didn't even feel is sink, my friend said I should back out on the driveway and I said "oh yeah", so I stopped, put the truck in drive and nothing went forward. I got pissed because NO posi and the right side tire was on concrete but it wouldn't spin at all... just the tire in the mud. My anger led me to gas it forward and reverse for about a minute just to realize I buried the frame in the grass and all i could see of the left side rear tire was 3" of the top of the tire! Oh... forgot to say: First time I've ever called the road side emergency number..HAHA! ------------------ TRUCK White 00' XLT 4.2 Auto Sport Regular cab Styleside 3.55 non-limited slip Superchip Airaid FIPK custom ported STOCK throttle body 1/4 ... 17.221@81.35MPH PC Thunderbird 1.1ghz @ 1.33ghz Abit KT7A-Raid 384mb Kingmax PC-150 ram 60gig IBM 75gxp RAID array Geforce2 GTS 64mb [This message has been edited by Talleywacker (edited 04-25-2001).] |

This all happened outside a place called Car Boutique, which is a well known customizing shop in the Chicago Suburbs... Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, among others bring their cars/trucks there. So, it only seemed fitting that as hardass as the truck looks I had to demonstrate that it isn't just all show and no go... by the way... I believe Lariat 4WD once said it is impossible to smoke all 4 in 4-wheel... not so in 4WD LOW pulling a tractor trailer! LOL Trust Me!

I was on the way home for a three day weekend last summer. I was running late all day long and I stopped for a late luch at the Taco Bell drive thru. AS soon as I out of the drive thru the cell phone rang with an important call that lasted the whole way home. We took the wife's car for the long weekend and came home three days later to find the windows fogged up on the truck. It was then that I remembered the MUCHO GRANDE 44oz. Pepsi sitting in the armrest cupholder, untouched, in the summer 90+ degree Florida heat and humidity. The Pepsi had eaten through the paper of the cup and overflowed the armrest with warm, flat, sticky Pepsi. What a mess!
I had totally forgotten about the Taco Bell trip I was in such a hurry. The 7 layer burrito survived the ordeal though and did not taste too bad (just kidding). Thankfully, it was still in the bag under the armrest. |

I tell ya, this might not be as stupid as some, but it made me feel stupid.
I had just bought my 98' STX Flareside about two weeks before. I drove in the back yard to pick up some garbage from when I finished the basement, you know wood, sheet rock, etc... Well I went to fill up the bed, and as I did, I through a 2x4 in the bed, it slid in, popped up and slapped the drivers side back window. I didn't get mad I figured since it was one of the leaky ones anyway I would just replace it. WELL, I started calling around and found that it was $340 to replace. The Glass folks said that you they couldn't replace just the one pain, they have to replace the whole slider, because it would leak. But Being the fixit man I am, I didn't take no for an answer, I went to Palmers Auto Salvage, the best around for new vehicles, and found the single pain of glass with the same 50 years of FORD trucks sticker, and mounted it back into the slider frame for a grand total of around $45. It hasn't leaked at all. The one thing that is different is I used Weather strip Glue instead of windsheild glue. I actually think it is a little better. It's still plyable but not so goooie. But you can't tell from looking that it was ever busted out. Mark that one for the team! |
Ummm....I was running (really) late for my flight out that week on Monday morning from Columbus, Oh airport ('ol Port Columbus). Anyway, (you guys who know Col will laugh) I was going so fast that I powerslid my truck around the offramp from the 270-670-Stetzer rd exit. And if that wasn't enough, I did it again 2 minutes later turning right onto the road down to Thrifty parking. I was hauling tail so fast that the Thrifty valet parking guy threatened to get out and walk back to where I picked him up. Right about then I calmed down and drove decently.
End of story, I got there 20 minutes before my flight left (made the 1 1/2 hour trip in 45 minutes--don't ask speeds https://www.f150online.com/f150board/biggrin.gif )but was in line for ten minutes so I ended up missing the flight after all. Northwest sent me down one counter to America West and I got a direct flight that got to Phoenix faster than the one I missed. Moral---first and last time I EVER do anything like that in my truck again. I was at my Dad's in North Carolina a few years ago for Christmas. Before the trip home I had to get rid of the water in the back of my bed because that is where the luggage and gifts were going(this was pre-tonneau cover) so I decided to back up across the street where there was a swale to let the water run out. It was raining the night before so the ground was pretty muddy. I got the water out but got stuck in the swale (damn 2WD!). Luckily he was having a fence put up in his back yard so the guys pulled my truck out and I gave them $20. I washed the wheel wells out and was on my way home to Florida. Luckily my wife was the only one who saw how stupid I was.
