^^^^ nice classic. the thing i LOVE about those trucks is the part availability in incredible. you can get a turbo 350 trans rebuilt for under 500 bucks, small block chevy's are a dime a dozen, cheap to lift, and solid axles. i still am looking to find be a 1987 K30 dana 60 front, corporate 14 out back, fuel injected big block 454, 4 speed manual. i will have one of those someday, a truck right from the factory that is pretty much bulletproof.

i have to admit my silverado was 10x's more comfortable to ride in, i am getting used to the f150 though. another thing that i will never understand is why ford didn't offer a bigger motor than the 5.4, hell you can get a chevy max crew with a 380hp 6.0 in it. but i do like how much higher the f150's sit though, always a free bonus. but IMO GM has ford beat on building a truck with a duramax/allison powertrain if that mother had a solid axle, that would be pure insanity

What you talkin' about?
1971 Chevy C-10...guess you could say she pre-dated the Silverado. This was when Chevy made real trucks.
Started life as a 350/350 combo...3 tranny's later, ungodly amount of carrier bearings and a bit of boring/stroking...became a 383 stroker.
Holley 750 double pumper, 6:1 rollor rockers, chrome molley pushrods (which suck BTW), Accell Dist/ignition, 1800 rpm stall, Torker II intake, cam so damn big you had to put into neutral at lights to keep it running, 4.10 gears, power steering, disc brake upgrade, Headers...lots of goodies
god I miss that truck. last I heard some punk *** kid did a gas station robbery and wrecked it running from the cops...should have never let my dad sell it while I was at Boot Camp. She may have only gotten 4 mpg...but it was a blast to drive.

Yea Chevy's do ride smoother and offer a bigger engine than Ford does. I test drove an 05 Z71 the day before I got my F150 and liked the truck alot. For some reason though the Ford impressed me the most and I don't regret my decision. Ya'll may think i'm crazy but I like the cummin's the best in the 3/4 ton truck's.

i used to have a '96 right outta highschool. it was really nice, laramie slt maroon, lifted, every option, beautiful truck. i ripped out the tranny before i changed the oil in it come to find out, i got ahold of the original owner and i was putting the 7th tranny in that truck for some reason it wouldn't hold up. i had it built with diesel trans parts and that thing was vicious, full throttle passing a car it would grab second and redline, bump off the limiter at 6grand and shift, i ditched it before the snow fell. but the thing with dodge is the are notorious for having absolute crap auto trannies. emissions are killing all the new diesels. if i could have bought a gray power wagon with a cummins stick, it would be sitting outside right now. those dodge megacabs are just badass![/QUOTE]
Yea if I was to buy a cummin's I would definately get the six speed manual tranny. I worked with my cousin for a little bit last summer on a pipeline and he had an 01 cummin's with the 5 speed manual and 5" stack's coming up behind the cab without a muffler or convertor's. I loved driving that truck around it sounded awesome. You couldn't tell that engine had over 200,000 mile's on the odometer. He sold it and got an 05 cummin's with the auto and didn't have it 2 month's and tore the tranny up.
