This one was scary
Last July I had a motorcycle wreck that kept me in the hospital for three days. The wreck, "caught my attention", but didn't scare me per se. However, while driving on I285 yesterday I came upon a stalled car in the middle lane. There was a car in back of him. Luckily, I came to a stop and the car in my rear view didn't slam into me. Now, I'm kind of trapped and looking at all these cars flying towards me and moving into the two outside lanes. I felt like a sitting duck. I had visions of someone slamming into the car in back of me then him into me. Whew! I finally saw an oportunity so I bolted. Now that experience SCARED me.
Damn that sucks. I get to put up with that kind of stuff all the time cause I drive a tow truck (unfortunatly all chevys, ususally I wear sun glasses so people don't recognize me). I have been driving the Kodiak flatbed and had crazies in a little Metro cut right in front of me. I doubt that little Metro would hold up too well against my big flatbed.
I was driving through Atlanta area from my vacation a couple weeks or so ago and there was a traffic jam as my lane started to ge going after a few minutes I was able to see what caused the jam one stalled car in one of the middle lanes and everyone was trying to get out from behind it causing the jam its hard to believe one car can make such a mess of traffic.

Screwby-Doo
I hope you are OK now, physically and emotionally. Wish you the best.
That's one of the reasons I do not do street motorcycle riding. At some point in time long time ago I did Enduros (off road racing) but not anymore.
Here in Puerto Rico almost 60% of the drivers population drives like crazy, so, kind of suicidal being in the street with a motorcycle.

Man that is scary! Atlanta traffic is awful! I had a similar experience here in Augusta about two years back. I was driving along on I-520(Bobby Jones Expressway)which is essentially a loop like I-285. Suddenly, the car in front of me darted into the right hand lane and sitting dead in the water ahead of me was a stalled car and another car behind the stalled car that had already hit it. I had no chance of stopping and no where to go, but I jammed on the brakes and managed to minimize the impact as much as possible. It was pretty bad though, airbags and everything, not to mention the worry of the cars flying up behind me. All in all everything turned out OK and no one was hurt aside from a few scratches and some bruises.

I drive a large brown truck on a daily basis for a little delivery company Im sure you all know. People love to pull out in front of whatever the biggest, hardest to stop thing they can find, and also like to tailgate and ride in all my otehr blindspots all the time! heh I feel like Im on a gocart when I get off work and hop in my 'little' fullsize ext cab truck
I drive a semi tractor-trailer and I'm not going to bad mouth 4-wheelers because I see guys and gals in 18 wheelers doing scary stuff just like the cars do. Everybody gets pissed at the idiot tailgating them in the rain but when that idiot is behind the wheel of 80,000 lbs. of Peterbilt it adds a whole new terror factor. I'm a very safe driver myself, or at least I try to be, and I'm just as wery of my fellow truckdrivers as I am of cars. Driving was never intended to be a full-contact sport and it is a never ending challenge to keep it that way no matter what you drive. The advantage of sitting up high gives you a better view of potential hazards but it also lets you see some of the most insane displays of driving that you might otherwise miss sitting down low in a 4-wheeler. Those are never ending as well. As for myself I'd rather be alittle late than not get there at all and thats something too many of us don't take time to think about. Be safe, happy trails.

I hate having to follow anything I can't see over top of. Thats one of the things I like about driving an F150, you can normally see those stalls in the middle lanes before you run into them. 4 of the 7 Smith sytem rules. Keep your eyes up, keep your eyes moving, get the big picture and leave yourself an out.
