HELP!!
Hi! I was just wondering. I can smell gas really bad outside of my truck. Its a 99 f150 and that was the first thing I noticed when I got it last year, well, other than how beautiful it was. Should I get it checked? Does anyone know what it could be? Thank you!

I can smell fumes when I get out sometimes too. I was wondering if it might be the gas cap. Whomever owned it before me took the cap with the cable and put a cheap cap on. These systems are under pressure, and mine has not had any problems running with this cap. Guess I didn't help ya much, Huh?

Do our trucks have carbon canisters in the fuel vent system? I recall some people having problems with older vehicles when they chronically over fill their gas tanks. The liquid fuel gets to the canister and over loads it and you end up smelling gasoline.
At any rate, you should not be smelling any gas at all and the truck needs to get to the dealer asap.
BTW, if it was a faulty gas cap, the Check Engine light would come on.
