It's not about the color of a mans skin...
It’s not about the color of a mans skin. It’s about the content of his character. Except for today. Today is historically significant because of the color of the mans skin and NOT the content of his character. Some believe that if a majority of people had been interested in the content of his character the historic significance of this day would be the inauguration of the first female president or of the first Latino president. Or the only significance would be that the white guy taking the office of the presidency would be someone other than Bush.
The American public has become fond of double standards. So on this day, as we celebrate a first in American history, which is quite significant, we embrace this double standard that we’ve created. In the coming days, weeks, months and years it’ll be the content of his character, and not the color of his skin, that will be significant. We’ll see if the roots of his character are of any significance. Celebrate! Enjoy this day. It’ll never be repeated. |
I was in DC since Friday and I just left. I left at about 3am and it was a mad house then. I barely could get on the interstate. The police had a lot of roads and ramps shut down. I would have love to stayed today but I know it was going to be a mad house so its best that left.

I'm starting to think there is more to him than we have been led to believe. He has
made some good choices in his cabinet, and a couple of questionable ones. but I think he will do a better job than we had been led to believe. Of course he can't keep all the promises he made, but none can. They all are very idealistic on the campaign trail, but then reality changes some of those ideals. It will defiantly be wait and see:beers: |
Who was the latino that was running?

On a similar note, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People should be dissolved.
How much more advanced can you get than the President of the United States? |

Speaking of double standards, I wonder how long it is going to take for the nation's black community to start crucifying Obama once they realize that things really never do change (for the better or worse).
I hope he creates change, but change for everyone. |

for a rude awakening. I'll bet on it.:beers: I just don't think he is going to give free rides. Yep, historic day - first african american president. Tomorrow, he is just the president. Get over it people. The more I read MSN, the more pissed I'm starting to get. |
Oh boy, opinion threads.....here goes
I do note the color, but mainly I have been impressed not by his color, but by his enthusiasm to take on such a task. He simply sounded a lot more convincing than anybody in the running, with constructive debate, not personal attacks. The fact that he's black is ACTUALLY a bonus. Now nobody can say that the average white guy gets all the breaks...it's done. No more racial inequality....so no more complaining about who keeps who down. I'm excited to see the next few years of America's future! |
While everyone is seeking hope and change, I'll be praying that he doesn't send this country on a road from which there is no return.

His skin color may be black BUT he isn't a "black" American. His father was African, not American. All the black folk were bamboozled by his skin color. He was raised in Hawaii, by white folk, and Hawaiians don't consider themselves American, they're Hawaiian.
He certainly has generated a tremendous popularity but unfortunately, according tot he rest of the world, he's just the next American President. The terrorist, North Korea, Iran, China, and Russia must be laughing their butts off. Anyone who has spent time overseas can appreciate what a joke today is. No matter our opinion, today is historic. I don't remember reading about the United States of America coming together to write the Declaration of Independence becasue America was white. I do remember that the Native Americans were a race that almost became extinct. To me, the day an Indian (Native American) becomes President, will be of significance, since we base historical events on race. I sincerely hope Obama is able to change the Washington insiders and keep Congress in session until America's problems are solved. I don't see it happening. Remember, he was a Senator - the ones who make laws - and did nothing. I don't expect much from him as President. I just hope that those who are unhappy with him in office don't jeopardize our national security as a means to defy his Presidency. After all, he's half white and was raised by whites. Oh well, it's just another day in the neighborhood! |
