I have a 87 Honda Foreman 350. THat thing is so reliable I don't think it'll ever die. I use it for work and play. The only thing thats gone wrong with it was a small electrical problem once. In the dead of winter after sitting outside for weeks the electric start always starts instantly. And it'll even go faster than my buddies 92 Yamaha Blaster...top speed wise(not through the gears though)

I think you should consider a Polaris. I have neglected mine since 1995 and have had no mechanical problems. It has (and still is) been very reliable. Tightest turning radius, 5 gallon tank, 4-wheel brakes, fender-to-fender running boards, and automatic transmission (my favorite).
I don't remember the cost though, somewhere around the $3K-$6K range for a sporty model (Trailblazer 250cc).

I'm with Fordtough-1, shop around your different dealers for the best price. I'm not too sure about the utility quad market, because I have a sport model. I have been around Honda's for quite some time, and they are very reliable and maintance cost are very low. I paid the MSRP for mine. By the way I have 99 Honda 400 EX.

I don't have a recon, I have a Honda 300 4x4, but I have experience with alot of different 4-wheelers. In general Honda ATVs are more reliable than any other. The recon is no exception. The recon is smaller than most atvs. They are easier to drive than anything especially something like a 600 4x4. A friend of mine has one and we ride together every once in awhile. The recon is smaller that my 300 but when we race, we stay right beside each other. In every comparison in the magazines the recon won hands down. The only thing I didn't like about the recon is that it didn't come with a trailer hitch, but you can get your dealer to put one on. On my 300 we paid 500 dollars below MSRP, and that was with a gun rack and floorboard added. Get your dealer to thow in an aluminum loading ramp, and the floorboards are very conveniet. If you get floorboards make sure you don't get the kind that you have to relocate the gear shifter. (that makes for awkward shifting) I just thought about something, The recon is no longer called a recon it is called a rancher for 2000. You must be looking at a 1999 model. I don't know what state you live in but if you are in a state where you don't have to register the atv, go out of state to buy it and you won't have to pay taxes on it. Shop around every Honda shop you can because when it comes down to it prices vary alot from dealership to dealership.
