Death of CART racing's Greg Moore
All of Canada who follow motorsport, and many who don't, are shocked and in mourning still over the death of 24-year-old Greg Moore at the final CART race in Fontana, CA, on Sunday. Many of us watched in horror on TV as his car hit the wall and disintegrated. I, for one, knew in my heart that Greg could never have survived such an impact, and I have not recovered even now from the loss that I feel.
Greg Moore was a fine, talented, modest, happy young man who inspired millions. He died "living my life-long dream", as he once put it, with his father (who is also his manager) and his mother and girlfriend in the pits and stands at the track in Fontana. Cards of condolence may be sent care of his father's car dealership, to The Family of Greg Moore, c/o Maple Ridge Chrysler, 11911 West Street, Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada, V2X 4T2. Sorry, I don't have their e-mail address. |
I would like to echo Shifter's sentiments as to the loss of Greg Moore. He was everything you expect in a racer: young, talented, fun loving and something you wouldn't expect: a genuinely nice guy.
More that once I'd seen him save a sliding car that lesser drivers would have put in the wall using just his quickness and instinct. It's a sad thing to lose such a good person and a talented athlete at such a young age. |
