I am not trading in anytime in the forseeable future. But if I were to trade in a few reasons would be to get the 5.4(more hp), overhead console, crack-free door, and most of all the 4th door. But I love my truck and plan on keeping it a long time.

Well I have been buying new cars every 3 or 4 years since 1987 and when I get my truck sometime in the next 6 months I'll plan on keeping it at least five years. The prices for new cars and trucks are getting to high to buy every couple of years.

Traded my 99 for several reasons.
1. The v-6 was to small for my needs
2. I do alot of offroad so I needed
the ls rear end
3. After driving the 99 for 10 months the
dealer gave me 1500.00 more for trade in
then I actually payed for the truck.
4. Now I have all the options I want and a
new truck all over again for almost the
the exact price that the 99 cost me.

All of you that are trading in, buying new 2000s, you forgot 1 option you'll get for FREE....a transmission that lets the computer do the shifting and possibly the thinking..it's called FREE WHEELING.
Buy a new 2000 an see, or better yet,TEST drive one (at least get it out on a interstate), before buying one.
I believe there are several 99s in this group, that this applies to also........I don't want to here from you super chipped people, that this problem can be solved with a Super Chip, NO WAY, I have the proof from Super Chips themselves....Right Mike Troyer??
Be carefull..Take a test drive...

I have the "freewheeling" also.
It is supposed to improve mpg.
Texaskid how much over invoice did you pay for your '99 and '00.
The dealer had to make money somehow.

Cool

dogcam....
Is this a good or bad thing in your opinion...since I see you own a 2000 model? What is good about this "feature" and what is bad that you have found??

0-60 in the 2000 model, 5.4L, is still extremely impressive at 8.1 seconds (empty)and 9.4 seconds with 1,000 lbs in the back....according to Truck Trends (Oct 99) issue.
1/4 mile was 16.2 seconds @ 84.8 mph. Not bad at all for a BEAST of this size!!

Well I ain't saying what I payed,,lol.
Just kidding. I payed 24150.00 Total that price includes tax tittle lic, delivery (I live in the middle of the dam desert) It also includes the bedliner, 4 molded mud flaps and front end bra none of wich have made it here thus far. The dealer however is my golf partner and he already had a buyer for my old truck way before I mentioned I might want a dif one.

Dogcam: Could the freewheeling have something to do with the extra-lean (low pollution) vehicle emissions rating? Just wondering. Maybe it's just "different", not worse. Maybe it takes getting used to and is good for the environment. Maybe not.

My 2000 4.2 5-speed runs fine - no different than my '98 4.2 5-speed. Of course, I'm the gear shifter and, if I want "engine braking", I can get it any time I want.

Almost forgot the purpose of this thread:

I traded my '98 because my lease was up, not because there was anything I didn't like about it. Would have bought out the '98 (paid the residual) but the deal was better on the '00 and I wanted 4-wheel ABS and a tach ('98 was an XL).

My second of the "new" F150s. Great trucks!

Shifter, you said the "magic" words,5 speed, you have the gear that you want to use at anytime or situation.
The automatic is a beast of a different kind......Catch my drift?

Those were all nice improvements you made, mderoller. The trucks haven't changed much in my mind, at least not enough to make it worthwhile for most of us to take the hit on depreciation. Since you aren't leasing, I think you are taking the smart route, keeping it up to date and keeping it as long as you can.

There are a couple of new options that I wish I had, but since I bought a house the idea of financing a '00 isn't practical.

I bought my '97 off the dealer lot in Sept. '96, after waiting 9 months for the truck I ordered to come in to no avail.

The truck I bought did not have the ORP, but I quickly fixed that by buying skid plates, original 4x4 decals, fog lights, and 265 Good Year Wrangler RTS (makes it as tall as the 17inch wheels). When the '98 showed up they had that cool Triton V8 decal which I had to have so I put those on my '97. Then they changed the exhaust to behind the rear wheel, which I had done for free under warranty. The two things I plan on buying next Spring is a AutoTrans-Recalibrator to correct the speedo for the taller tires, and a custom exhaust to get more HP and that nice sound.

Now the only thing I wish I had was a limited slip. But I can live without it. In 3 months it will be paid off. I'll enjoy driving it for 2 years payment free, then I'll lease a nice car like a BMW or Audi to satisfy my need for speed :-). I'll keep the truck as long as I can, until it stops running, or I do.
