I'm Confused. What's the Difference
 

I was looking at trucks the other day and just comparing them. What is the difference b/t the Chevy 1500, 2500, 3500 vs the Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500. The only thing I could compare it to is that the Lincoln Mark Lt truck is suppose to be more of a luxury vs our F-150's. I take it that the Sierra is equivalent to the Lincoln and the Chevys are equivalent to the Fords. Is this correct?

i can't really tell ya. my friend had a chevy z71 and his dad had just a regular gmc. they were identical as far as looks, interior, engine. i think (as far as a i know) that their the same until you get to the denali package.

The way I have understood it, Chevy trucks are sold at Chevy dealerships.
There are also Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, etc.. dealerships that offer new GMC trucks. By nature those name plates are more 'high end' than Chevy so the GMC trucks tend to be trimmed out higher than Chevy.
That's not to say a high end Chevy won't be nicer than a low end GMC.

Back in the 50's and 60's Ford wanted to sell trucks in Canada the same way.
They sold trucks at Mercury dealerships that were Mercury Pickups.
Not available in the US.
My father-in-law has an old Mercury pickup.
Basically a Ford with a lot more factory chrome.

Ok kids, back in the early days, long, long ago, the GMC had a heavier frame and was a little heavier duty than the Chevy, though the outer skins were the same. Now days, they are the same except for cosmetics. They are even made on the same lines. There have been instances when they would get things such as hub caps on the wrong brand.

I didn't know that....learn something new every day.

Years ago when I was taking my 1954 F100 to car shows, every now and then a 1956 Mercury pickup would show up. It was strange to cee the raised MERCURY across the tail gate. That and the emblems were the only difference on the 56s.

It is a beauty too, either a '50 or '51 model.
He has 18 vehicles in storage all in show condition.
I wish I had a list but, he is always shopping for a new one.
He has to unload his least favorite, 18 is his max storage.
The earliest is a '29 Ford, the newest is a '72 Chrysler.

He has one in his will for each of his kids.
My wifes is a '64 Galaxie 500 convertible, unless he dumps it.:)

We are NOT in line for the Merc, I'm not his favorite son-in-law, go figure.:lol:

Correction: His newest is a '96 Cobra convertible.

Me personally, I like the GMC line better, a bit nicer in areas. It use to be more than skin deep a long time ago, now it's basically whatever looks better to you.

They could have well been the same and the Merc has had modifications...

I'm almost positive that the directional lights on the Merc are mods. They look basically the same other than the fancier emblems on the Merc, and the chrome bumper. That bumper looks as if it could be a 50 Plymouth bumper, that was a very popular mod back then.

I take it back, on the directional lights. I just looked at a 1948 that had the same lights. Must have been stock. They just look out of place to me.

I try to always buy oem parts for my GMC from the chevy dealer, same parts but much cheaper.

Nowadays the only difference is the front/grill is a little different. Most noticable when chevy switched the headlights on the 03 to the chinese eyes, they left the Sierras normal. They have since switched back due to the pure uglyness of the headlights. :lol:

When I need a part for my wife's Lexus, first stop Toyota. :thumbsup:
