Computer guru's, need help!!!!!

Ok so here is my issue. i have a desktop pc with windows XP professional on it. Did 3 updates about two days ago, no issues. Tonight, windows downloads a security update, fine, installs....fine. Restarts. Cool! It starts up, shows the scrolling blue bar, goes to the login screen, I put in my password, it starts up gets to the desktop then BLAM. Black screen.

WTH happened? Any ideas? I can get into it in safe mode, but cant find a way to a restore point. I also did the service pack 3 update. Any one have ideas as to what happended?

have you tried turning the computer off and unplugging the power for a minute. I had that fix a soundcard issue once

no, I turned it off for a while then turned it back on. I might try that though. Uninstalling all of service pack 3 (which I installed two nights ago) to see if thats it, and uninstalling anything else new in safe mode.

Sounds like some sort of new driver conflict with the new service pack. Try updating your video drivers first (since those will usually cause a black screen) in safe mode and see if that helps.

Make sure you use a driver cleaner to assure all the old files are removed before installing the new drivers.

Can't find a restore point? Start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.

Had a brain fart last night, finally got it restored to before the service pack was installed and all is well. Thanks for the help guys!
