Habibi's Camping Trip Photos
We've been camping for the last couple weeks in Long Sault, ON, which is about a 15 minute drive from Akwesasne, NY.
We're on the St Lawrence Seaway which has a very interesting history. In the 50's, Ontario Hydro, and the NY Power Authority jointly worked out a plan to flood the St Lawrence River so that large ships could navigate through here; it was an engineering marvel, even for today. As a result, several Canadian villages were relocated to higher ground before the flooding took place, and the area is known as "The Lost Villages" Here is a link explaining it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_Villages Anyway, in some areas of the water, you can see old buiildings, chimneys, and highways below the water's surface. My wife & I were driving around today, and we found a section of the old Highway 2 which was lost to the flooding. You can see from the photos how the highway just continues out under the river. We found a few people scuba diving who said it was very cool to see the stuff below. Here's a few pics of the old highway 2 going under the water. The wildlife is remarkable here, deer, ducks, geese, minks, it's like a bird sanctuary over here. Trust me Bigman, you don't want to see me, I'm aesthetically challenged.
Better you focus on the nice scenery instead of my ugly mug. |

Hab,
The pic. of the Pooch is great, absolutely the best, but I like animals better than most people!! |
Nice looking place. I'm out in the boat right now fishing for walleye but my son just bagged a really nice smallmouth in the 3 -4 pound range. Were not too far from North Bay Ontario. I'd post the picture if I could do that from this phone.
I thought you were camping out east Habibi. |
Looks like a nice trip, man.
I think you should've made at least one picture that didn't show the road bed going in to the water... in short, making it look like your truck was floating. HA! Crop the picture time! ;) |
Awesome pics, thanks for sharing. :)
