BMW M5 can't fly. Teen driver kills 5.

Not sure if this had been posted here or not. Sad but not surprising results.

The teens own web posts leading up to the fatal test flight.

"Let me say I am a beginner when it comes to high-performance cars as I am only 18, so take it easy on me."
Tragic results:

i just read all the stories about this. seeing their picture really sadened me, i dont get sad or emotional to often, but this struck me. To think that he posted on the site just hours before he went out, its so sad. Its very, very, very sad and I feel for his family. Just think about the emotional wreck his dad will be in the rest of his life. Very very sad story. This is def gonna make me drive slower.

Even more of a reason for kids to have to drive Beaters that won't do 60 mph with a tail wind!! What was his dad thinking letting him drive a 500hp vehicle?

Prob the same thing we would think if we were in his dads place. Stories are conflicting saying his dad bought it and gave it to him and its his dads actual car. But lets diagram this. Friday night, son comes up to you and says hey dad, let me take out your car tonight because im gonna take a few friends with me and your car is a lot cooler than mine. Dad thinks back to when he was a kid and how he knows what its like, so dad gives in and lets the son drive the nice car so the son feels good about himself that he gets to drive a cool car for the night. They go to bball game then an after party. Son makes a rash decision that changed the lives of 5 separate families forever. Im not one to ridicule the dead, so I will just give my prayers to his family especially his dad, because at this point in time, i bet he feels terrible.

I'm wondering if that kid was trying to play the role as Marty as in Back to the Future...?

Hmmmm...

Maybe he should've watched it...

I'm on the BMW forums, and we knew who he was immediately.

Really terrible what happened, RIP and my best to his family.

Late night, friends hanging out joyriding, 500hp V10, bad things can happen.

I thought the newer M5's were paddle shift?

That thread is very scary. I will never speed again. This is a must show to my 16 year old friend who just got a new Pontiac Firebird and wants to race me now.

If you read the thread on the M5 website he refers to the paddle shifters, so I'd say yes, the new M5s utilize paddles.

Oh, I would never let me child drive a car like that. In fact, they'd be lucky to get a $10k beater.

And how cool you are in high school really matters. I feel for the families, but from seeing some of his posts on the M5 site, it sounds like this kid had trouble coming for him...

Very sad, I can't believe no one jumped his ass when he mentioned doing 140! I don't blame the dad, I blame the son's poor judgement. We have all been there, just we lived through it and had alot slower vehicles
