That link says it all, there are a ton of cases of fords starting on fire. Some without the Cruise Control Switch.

Then go buy a Toyota. :coffee:

Most were the cruise control that the morons neglected their recall notice.My dad and I both bought used 97 F150s and even though we bought used we both recieved more than 1 cruise recall notice in the mail.
FWIW I saw a 99 F150 up the street go up in flames, another moron neglected his recall notice. :smoke:

Ya, no sh+t, I think every car Ford made was recalled for it. Whoever hasn't had it replaced is their own damn fault, pick up a phone if need be to find out if your's is affected. PS, I believe the switch (cruise control) is made by Texas Instruments if I remember right.

Anyone want to still piss and moan about the Firestone fiasco? That was proven neglect on Firestone's behalf as well as driver overcompensating/ over-reacting to a blow out. NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This came up on one of those TV Magazines a year or three back. 60-Minutes, 48 Hours, Dateline- One of them...

Texas Instruments said they told Ford they were running too much juice through the switch. Ford said, No you didn't. So, the jury is still out, so to speak, as to whose fault it is/was:

Yeah, I don't know how many folks this has happened to, but given the fact that Ford sells hundreds of thousands of F-150's a year, it's probably a small amount. But, to bring that into perspective, 1% of 100,000- is still 1,000, 1/10th of 1% (of 100,000) is still 100. So, as more trucks move, the numbers increase. While the chances are low, with the potential for hundreds of fires, that's still a lot.

But, I have seen a brand new Oldsmobile on fire on the interstate on my way to Chicago way back in the 80's; I've heard about a brand new 1993 Trans Am that caught fire coming on post at Fort Hood, and I saw an old Dodge Caravan maybe 3 years ago, on fire in the elementary school parking lot, about to burn itself up, and the cars parked next to it.

I don't believe the problem is indigenous to Ford, but Ford seems to have had this problem more than others.

Choose your poison. When I had my Dodge the Ball Joints were total crap and owners would be traveling dwon the road and the front tire would literally collapse causing people to loose control, sometimes at 60+ mph. The old Tundra was also plagued with Bj problems. On any vehicle with thousands of parts that have to work perfectly problems will pop up, especially as China and Mexico get more work outsourced to them. I just pay my insuance premuims and hope for the best
